Painted Roll Over Hoop Covers

I have been admiring these on Boxsters for a while so I decided to go down the same route. They were easy enough to remove and my local bodyshop made a great job of spraying them.

I don't know, I have always been in two frames of mind about wether to paint them body colour or not. I still can't decide, that's why I have left them as they are. Main thing is if you like the look, that is all that matters.

I think a dark colour is fine, but white or VO would be a no no.

I thought long and hard and I have to say I am really pleased with them. If I change my mind then a new pair of OEM covers aren't very expensive.

Hmmm.... they did a GREAT job and they look decent, but I think I'm of the opinion that the color contrast looks a bit better. A to each their own sort of thing though! I've got the estoril blue so its a very different color combo anyway.

I think they look fine, toyed with the idea myself. Might buy a spare set of covers and get them done.

Good advice.

One of the first mods I did was paint the roll over hoop covers body color. They came out great and look 100 times better than the cheap looking silver color from factory.

Mine will be painted soon, along with the US reflectors, the mirrors and the wheels. The front grill is already posted. Then the side indicators and she’ll be mostly black. I’m toying with the Z4 and the is emblems.

OP, yours came out very nice. Good for you.

I love the colour coding of the rear lower valance but I would have gone a satin or matt black with the hoops.

Thanks! I was into matte black back trim back in high school but my tastes have evolved over the last 30+ years. :D

It not evident in those photos above but the front half of the roll over covers is carbon fiber. I had thought about doing the whole piece in carbon fiber but didn't like losing the contrast, so ended up not doing it. Both pieces, front and back are actually, for a car of this quality are exceedingly cheap looking.

Painting of these pieces, whatever color you decide upon, I think can't be a bad idea. I prefer body color and don't personal think that there is any color that would not look good but matte/satin black anything is just not my style. Too many DIY fad satin/matte, half way decent, finishes running around for me to take seriously at the moment.

Next carbon skinning experiment?

Just waiting on better weather to fit these. Dont think it would look right with both sides of the roll hoop carbon.

They look fantastic great job!

Got me thinking I would like to do mine but it being a red on red car it might be a bit much

Not sure about that. I have toyed with the idea of carbon skinning the hoops or painting them but I am still not sure about them so have left them standard for now. On my black car I like the contrast the satin silver gives especially with the top up when looking into the car from behind. My next carbon fiber experiment will be the steering wheel, I have picked up a cheap steering wheel of some fast Renault from eBay to practise on but that has to wait as I am dealing with the subwoofer install right now! :)
