Painted my calipers today

I assume painting the pads isn't dangerous, I masked off the sides - it was just the recess I didn't cover
Painting the pads not the best idea but won't hurt. Although I did this my first go too and the dealer said it could harm the pad but take that with a huge pinch of salt.
Only thing that will happen when you come to have the pads removed is you might get a funny edge with the paint being stuck to the calliper and pad and when the retaining clip is removed you'll be left with a section of unpainted calliper. Meaning you'll have to sand down and reapply.
The clips are a Pain in the arse and generally when you put them back on they scrape the paint anyway! But do look better in a contrasting colour I did mine in black to go with my cars theme.

Fair play Marlon, you had a go and the caliper in your photo with the wheel on really stands out - plus I can't really tell from that if there is any paint on the back of the pad!
But this is why mine can stay as BMW intended - I really can't be bothered with all the detailing police giving me a hard time. :lol: Originality and patina are key in the world of collectability!

Cheers Paul, I originally planned to go black with the wheel bolts but I now quite like them silver - match the discs. However, I may do some photoshopping in red now :wink:
Good idea to go silver with the wheelbolts Marlon, red isn't allowed (it's reserved for Vauxhall corsas)
My contrasting clips after calliper fettling, I cleaned mine up & used clear lacquer on them

It looks OK, but I would have done the job properly and for the sake of 2 minutes work taken the caliper off the carrier. You could have cleaned all the caliper and not got paint on all the bits that should not have it, such as retainer clip, pads and the carrier mount points (they need to be clean to allow the pads to slide with wear.
Surprised you didn't just use Halfords red caliper paint that brushes on, lasts forever and takes only 1 or 2 coats

Not at all. Better finish as it's a special paint that flows and adheres properly and in any event the surface of a BMW caliper is very rough. You can paint the whole of the parts, not just some bits of visible surface and it lasts for years.
I've done lots of sets of BMW's over the last 15 years.
In your opinion. You cannot compare slapping a thick gooey paint on with a brush compared to a spray which adheres to all the surfaces which are inaccesible with a brush, why dont Car painters paint the whole body with a brush & some hammerite?
Brakes done @ factory like 8 pots etc, theyre powdercoated with a wet spray coat first , not painted with a brush.
Ive also painted brakes with spray cans for over 10 years (not sure what relevance that has...)

it makes me really sad for a supposed 'community' the amount of 'nit picking' that goes on here, This thread and the wheel brace one being prime examples.
It makes you think, why would anyone bother posting up what they've been up to, or doing a little DIY guide , if evertime they do, they get shot down in flames? Some people really need to have a word with themselves & think before opening their keyboard mouth if they've nothing constructive or pleasant to say. Its easy to knock something, or even give someone some friendly advice, but the way somethings are written on here dont half look patronising or condescending :thumbsdown:
