Paint protection

Having ordered my new 35i am now wondering how to protect it against the dreaded stone chips the 23i is covered in them. Was offered the paint protection which was declined at the time because I hate to pay for extras but would like any thoughts on the subject am intending to give it a good coat of wax when I get it but am wondering about the paint protection or any other option
besides not getting it out of the garage. :roll:

I had a MINI Cooper S done years ago and it cost £460 just for the bumper and front part of the bonnet, it did the job though. They came to the house and it took the guy a good 4 hours to do. If your dealer is obligeing you could get the company to install the film at the dealership on delivery.

No amount of waxing will stop paint chipping :(

The paint protection that the dealer offer...is that the seal and protect stuff?

Thats just a poorly applied, overpriced treatment. Much better to get it pro detailed when you get it - that will remove any dealer swirls etc and give it a good protection layer of wax etc. But as Tim says, wax wont stop stonechips.
 
I spent hundreds of pounds correcting the paintwork that was damaged by the dealer applying BMW seal and protect. Run away from it, quickly...

Agree - Snake Oil and not worth the cost. Bought a new 325i in September and the sales guy was really taken aback when I refused the 'paint protection' 8)

Then he looked at my trade in (also a 325i) and asked hopw I had kept the paint in such good condition.......certainly not BMW paint protection :poke:

Had my 1 serviced recently and service guy was equally shocked when I refused the free wash. Very glad I did refuse as when I drove out I realised the free wash was done by a car wash! :headbang:
 
Both Our Z4 and 1'er have had new car set up and protect details done when they were bought, and both are getting a 6 monthly protection detail done in April.

I use Zaff at Project Karma (www.project-karma.co.uk). He's based in Bristol but travels (I'm in Devon). Shameless plug I suppose, but he really is top notch, so I'm happy to recommend.
 
Thanks guys your just confirming what I had thought have always refused these treatments in the past and stuck to my own devises the 23i came with most of the stone chips as was second hand and got it cheap but now am getting a shiny new one it makes me want to keep it special :tumbleweed:
 
Exactly what gets done on the BMW seal and protect? My cars about 5 weeks away,in mineral white,and the seal and protect was thrown in. I wouldn't normally buy it,pointless on a metallic and it doesn't cover leather. How can applying it cause damage?
 
The products they use might be ok, but most dealers seem to cause swirls when prepping cars, and this would just lock those in.
 
I know nothing about detailing, paint protection etc. I guess the dealer is going to try and sell me this kind of stuff. He's already mentioned the alloy wheels and tyre insurance from BMW. Is this worth it?

I've been pondering what to do about cleaning the car and keeping it looking good. I have neither the time or inclination to do it myself.

I guess the eastern europeans near the woodstock pub on the A24 that I use for the ford focus are not the best option with a new car, neither is tescos! I'm also concerned about some of the horror stories I've read here and on detailing world regarding complimentary washes at BMW during services so I guess what I want to do is find someone local to look after the car.

This place is very local http://www.autoshine.org.uk but I've struggled to find any reviews on line or any mention on here or detailing world. Anyone used them?

Any suggestions on anyone else in southwest london.
