Paint Protection

Hi Guys, just collected my new Zed and I was wondering what you lot thought of paint protection??

Dealer offered Supaguard which I declined as at was £300! But has anyone on here had any experience of having this done, or of having film protection (like Paint Shield) applied to their car??

Just interested in knowing if its worth it or not??

Welcome to the forum...
Be sure to post up some pics of your Zed... :camera:
...I'm sure you will get a lot of feedback concerning paint protection...

Lots of other alternative sealants that give similar results for far less money, if you put in a couple of hours to get it on.

You do need to reapply every few months, but Poorboys is my current choice. Others have other ideas..

I decided to go for the Supagard as much for the soft top and interior as for the paint protection, but as I'm only a week into my 3-year Supagard warranty I can't really comment on the long-term benefits :) .

However, it's nice to know that if a bird sh*ts on the interior any damage will be made good. Also, FWIW the dealer reckoned that they would offer £200 or so more in P/EX for a Supagarded vehicle.

if you feel like a little workout, buy supagard from ebay and apply it yourself, the paint sealant is a doddle to use and just buffs off, its all available here

oh and save yourself lots of cash too

I meant to say, yes i do use it myself, not on the M yet but on my old porsches and the Audi.
Its like teflon coating a car :D

Sorry, but I don't believe this for a second... it may or may now be worth it for the benefit of supaguard, but I really doubt it affects resale value... that was just typical stealer bullshit

I have been using Menzerna on my cars for the last year and would prefer to do that instead of some coating someone else applies. I can always refresh the Menzerna FMJ topcoat when I need to and it seems to last several months as opposed to most carnauba waxes that only last for a few weeks.

I had Autlglum LifeShine on my TT applied by the dealer at the cost of £300 and it was money down the train.

The product does work and will protect your paintwork against things like bird poo or corrosives, but you can find many valeters out there that will apply Supagard or Diamondbrite for you from as little as £39 (that I found). Also I am of the opinion that if you're willing to wax your car regularly it will give you a similar protection and will look better.

On my TT I had accumulated a lot dirt in the front and wouldn't come off when washing so I had to clay-bar and machine-buff the car. That was it for my £300 of LifeShine as it came all out.

On the Z I did a proper valet with a good coat of good quality wax when I got it. I then do it regularly. I have though installed VentureShield and I think it is well worth it. It does protect the paint against stone chips and is quite satisfying when you see the front of the car covered in all sorts of wildlife remains and you just wash it all away off the film quite easily. :)

Interesting... did you do that yourself or did you get it done somewhere? Which parts of the car does it cover?
