So I bought my z 5 nd half months ago when iBought it there were a few marks on the front bumper and the main dealer said they would sort them and they did. However looking today you can see the join where they have re sprayed part of it and the laquer is peeling off. Am I being anal that I would expect it to last more than 5 months. Also any one had any luck with dealers and flaking paint in the past.

The longer I have the car the more I think the dealers just bodged stuff up, didn't expect this from a main dealer.

Cheers guys

Jon

Be stern with them and say firmly that it's not what you negotiated when you agreed to when you bought the vehicle. They will say they cant do it for as long as they can, but when they realise that you wont roll over, they will sort it for you. Mention trading standards and citizens advice and they will probably sort it.

Thats said, 5 months in and they will argue that the damage was done after the repair.

It's worth being firm with them as likelihood is, you will never deal with them again even if the outcome is positive.

go for it kick up a fuss i have had repairs done on my bumpers etc on my company cars 2 years later you would not no.didnt do a good job of the prep work :headbang: take it back demand it is done again properly :headbang:

It's a workmanship flaw. Sometimes the clear coat peels after two years, so - ironically - you're lucky the symptoms appeared earlier. If you have problems with proving the dealer's ineptness, have an independent expert assess the situation. I've experienced the peeling lacquer twice, on different cars, and had it resprayed free of charge. It was after one and two years respectively! Good luck!

Definitely say something;was it done by their own bodyshop or do they sub-contract? Either way, give them a call.

Take it back, has to be covered under warranty if main dealer did it. If not look into sale of good act.

Had an issue with lacquer peeling on my front bumper a year after buying it. Took it back and Sytners Notts fixed it FOC - so I would say depends on the dealer.

Cheers guys gonna give them a call tomorrow as well as taking it back for the rear parking sensors packing up. Not been too good 5 months nd a cracked manifold, sensors going and now the paint lol all on a car that just 3 years old.

Good luck with it and let us know how you get on. And no, you weren't being anal. You would expect something to last longer than 5 months!

+1

I had my front bumper resprayed last May time and no sign of any peeling (touch wood). I would return to my private paintshop man in a flash if there were any problems. So you shouldn't accept the shoddy workmanship/materials and get a rework FOC.

After 50 years in the car paint game I can tell you that if you have a good job done you should not see the joint and the laquer should not be flaking.
All you problems are because of bad preperation.
Get back to the dealer and insist they sort it out.

UPDATE

Got the dealers to replace the misted fogs and agree the paint is wrong and flacking as well as realigning the front bumper as the hanger appears to be slack on one side.
I had to sit in the garage for 2 hours as they kept saying the sales man was busy, so I just sat there until they realised I was going no where. Car was going In for warranty work on PDC. Any way after kicking up a fuss they said they would do all the bits, had to get manager out.
Picked the car up on Tuesday, fog lights were good, PDC worked but bumper still out of alignment and a really obvious join in where they had re sprayed some of the paint, also did not remove number plate so obvious over spray and a flat spot where the laquer is frosty. Got the service manager out and he agreed it was a poor job and said sales man would call me. Got an email next day and they said they would have the car bak and redo it. I told them I dnt want them to I want to take it to my body shop of choice and they pay for it as they have bodged it twice now. Am awaiting their reply.

I think you'll be hard pushed to get them to agree to that.

I had a similar problem when I picked mine up. 4 year old car when I bought it and it had had a smart repair to the rear bumper. Couple of weeks later when I got it home I was washing it and noticed a very obvious line where the repair had been. I took it back and their in-house guy managed to do an excellent job on it.

As for the manifold - it seems to be a common fault on the 2.0. Mine had the same!
