Paint or polish???

@ aquazi... any type of polish will remove clear coat, but even wet sanding like the above doesn't put it into the danger zone of failure... I never chase perfection at the risk of reducing the life of the paint... not worth it for everyday cars (IMO)

@Steven... I'll send you some down.... lol

everyone was banging on about it so much, I had to get some to see what all the fuss was about... nowhere near the best wax I have though, and not worth the price tag - again IMO...

Did you get the full £8k pot (1400g I believe) or did you find a smaller/ sample pot?

My car (under previous ownership) was detailed last June (2012) finished off with Zymol Royale. It apparently hasn't been waxed since and there is still a lovely deep shine....so I wonder whether the royale lasts longer than others?

no way... I got a sample from someone I know... ;)

Royale does last longer than some waxes.... but you're doing very well if it's been through a winter and still beading etc??

your paint shine comes from polishing, not waxing... in fact, I recently carried out a gloss test and know that Royale doesn't add anything to the paintwork.... as far as gloss ratings go...

a much cheaper wax however, has a 11% rise in gloss levels....bouncers 22 wax.

it was all very interesting....

Ok, yeh there is still beading. Although the car has only covered 2000 miles since last June and was stored in a garage all winter....so not been open to the elements.

Is Bouncer's 22 your wax of choice?

ah, little use and indoors.... should last with then then... although, I would still expect a good few months out of a couple of layers of Royale, but that's still good... topping up with a QD after each wash should help it last as well... ;)

no, I don't personally use bouncers, although I have a few of their limited editions, and they are actually really good waxes for the price.

I use either Definitive wax, or my bespoke Mitchell and King one...or Royale... my mate "needs" that on his car... lol

I tend to "waste" more money on those products rather than cleaners, polishes etc....

just a bit of fun for me, wax is a very personal and subjective finish for a car!

Take a look at how bad my paint is :( It looked ok when i brought the car then every time i washed it after it got worse and worse. Had they can you use some sort of filling was polish to hide this kind of thing? The bumper bonnet defiantly need painting properly at some point. But i cant afford that at the moment. Is there anything i can try to improve things???

Also have this on the rear wing

ouch... :x

Well one of them is obviously a poor attempt at a repair... shame it's on the curve of the wheel arch...

Touch ups on silver paint don't really work due to the way the flakes lie (different from brush to gun), so I wouldn't try that, I'm afraid that is a repair job...

Something like chipsway could help, I know a lot of people seem to moan about them, but the whole point is that if the job is good, you’ll never know about it… I’ve seen (well measured) plenty of cars that have had great spot repairs…

the other thing you could do is a rattle can job... spend some time getting everything taped up around it, and try to build the paint up... a kid of DIY spot repair if you like... it could make it look worse mind you....

The others, well certainly the first looks like lacquer failure, again something that requires paint work… a few ways to do it… for very small repairs I brush the lacquer on, and wet sand/denibber it down to blend it… although this isn’t always 100%, or you could ‘blow in’ new lacquer, or have to repaint the panel… again, not something beyond the capabilities of a good chipsway type person.

The other 2 seem to be either damaged lacquer, if so see above, or have a load of fallout on it… if it’s the later, get some decon gel onto it (they usually turn purple with contact – something like Iron X or Wolfs Decon gel) then clay the paint – not sure if you have already tried it…

If it is fall out, then the above steps should clear that up nicely… ;)

Huumm as i thought really. I think i will have to just start saving up for the paint job!!

Yeah i have clayed it polished and all that. It was after using clay after washing the car that the bonnet really stood out. Like some sneaky so in so used something to hide it!!

I am going to spend some time on the car this weekend i might give some of your suggestions ago.

Thanks Cueball
