Anybody recommend a decent paint correction / detailing guy in SW London / Surrey area?

Got a few scratches and swirls I would like to have sorted.

Not used the personally, but come highly recommended... www.elitedetailing.co.uk

If nothing else I love browsing their portolio

if anyone knows one in/close to newcastle while your there it would be a good help.

sorry to hijack your thread :P

the forum could maybe put together a list of tried and tested traders, mechanics etc if everyone contributes?

Well Robbie at Valet Magic did a great job on mine so I'd rate him highly indeed.

Check out the results http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=142890

Very competitive on price as I did a fair bit of shopping around the area but he seemed the best priced/experienced.

Only problem with detailing is it turns you into some sort of dirt obsessed maniac... :D

nice results. how much does somethiong like that tend to cost as a ball park figure?

Machine polishing is a bit of dark art but it really depends on the job - I'd budget between 300-400 depending on the state of the car. That's including the full clay bar clean and multiple wax passes. It's not like a homebase car park special!

Take a look on Pistonheads, theres a guy called KDS who has done loads of BMWs and also performed a wet sand on a few... the results are amazing when compared to the orange peel effect most new BMs tend to leave the factory with.

Alternatively bring your car round to mine and let me test out my machine polisher the missus bought me for xmas before I try it on my baby :p

I think the wetsand process is a bit controversial. Most detailers only do it if absolutely necessary as it really hammers down the thickness of the paint. When I took the car in I mentioned that there was orange peel on a number of sections and Robbie's response was simply "without a doubt". His take was that this was basically a BMW standard finish :(

Seeing as most people don't even know what orange peel is until you explain it to them my vote would be to leave it as is. Sadly BMW seem happy to deliver the car in that condition so I don't think it detracts from the value at least...

A mate of mine on PSOOC (Pug Sports Owners Club) does detailing in his spare time.

Mention Stu from PSOOC sent you if you live in Hampshire, I'm sure he will do you a good deal.
