Paint Colour, Daft Question.

Hi There,

My boot was damaged by a roof tile in the recent high winds (my sky high excess and a recent claim means I'm not keen to claim on my car insurance).

It's bent and scratched down to the metal so it isn't going to polish out. :(

Any way on the E85 did they only do the "Titan Silver"? Looking at just getting a boot lid from a breakers / eBay.

Mines is a 2007.

If I understand your question correctly you want to know the paint colour of your Z4? Just put the VIN number into a VIN decoder site and it will give the paint code - e.g. mine's 416 (CarbonSchwarz).
Sorry if this is not what you meant.
 
Well that's what you'll need for an exact match and to make completely sure.
When you go to your car again, take a photo or note the VIN and then you can check. Problem (well part of it) solved.

Only problem is that as with most BMW's there are several shades of the same 'identical' colour, hence buying a spare boot lid may not be a good match.

For the spraying I've been doing on a couple of BMW's the paintshops mix then look in daylight that it matches, sometimes even choosing a different colour system to get it right.

If the boot lid is damaged then a spare may be cheaper than straightening and prepping it, Vs simple prep and paint and of course you won't lose the car for a couple of days.

AND SILVER IS THE WORST COLOUR TO MATCH :cry:
 
All good points - I should have mentioned in my first reply that the colour code (e.g. 416) is a good start, but not a guarantee of a perfect match, due to weathering, fading etc. Best of luck with the repair.
 
When I got my M Bumper painted Alpine White (BMW #300),
the Paint Tech took a scan of the fender (wing) paint with a colour analyzer.
His lap top printed out a paint mix code as well as a list of factory paints that were the closest.
Apparently my paint was closer to a Mazda White.
Don't forget to ask for a bottle of touch up paint.
 
Good luck with getting the repair done to a good standard.

Sadly your house insurance will almost certainly not cover the repair to the car :( , but FWIW a buildings policy should cover getting the tiling fixed!
 
I'd go for a replacement t boot, especially if you can pick up a Titan silver one. I did exactly the same as I wanted to remove my rear spoiler. Found a boot in black sapphire for £150. An hour or so to swap over, and nobody would ever know.

Silver is harder to match, but I think any differences in colour will be less noticeable on the boot.
 
Mine is silver, looks the same as yours from the picture and pretty sure the code is 354.

I have a little bottle of touch up paint sat on my desk with that code written on it

EDIT: I'm slow you already have the code, didn't read the previous posts properly!

Ah gents, the plot thickens, I got the boot any way, looks a damn sight better than my one at the moment. However on closer inspection of the car, there's a small gash in the canvas and some small gashes on the bonnet.

The roof tiles were not mine, they were from my neighbour's house. I got a quote from BMW as I figured his house insurance would cover it. The quote came in at £3.7k. :roll:

Figuring that their insurance would do the sum total of sweet FA I figure that getting the worst of the damage sorted (the boot) and the bonnet I could probably get away with a respray.

I'll add some photo's in a bit.

The Mrs said this hasn't been a lucky car..... what with getting hit by an uninsured driver and now this....

Anyone got any advice on whether a respray would cut it on a deep scratch?
