Paddling pools in footwells

I'm having a problem with water soaking the driver & passenger footwells and my main dealer can't figure it out so I thought I'd ask the experts!

I think I've narrowed the problem down, but just don't know how to fix it:

The water is clear when I soak it up (so it's probably not from a leaky heater core). I've left the car out and driven it in torrential rain recently and everything stayed dry as long as I didn't use the aircon. As soon as I used the aircon on any journey over 30 mins, the water reappeared.

When I park up after using the aircon, I do get a wet patch underneath the car, but (from what I can remember) much smaller than it used to be.

So do you guys agree that it may be blocked aircon drain(s) and if so has anybody got suggestions as to how I can get them unblocked? I can't even figure out how to get to the part of the aircon unit that causes the condensation!

If it needs ramps etc. I can take it to my dealer to do the work, but would like to be able to direct them to what they should look at so that it keeps the bill as small as possible.

Thanks in advance.

I think it seems it is the aircon system. Your dealership should know where the parts are....alternatively if you check RealOEM it will show you where the parts you think maybe causing the issue are.

Thanks Angie - I hadn't discovered RealOEM. It's a really useful resource!

I've been driving without aircon for a week now and no puddles (despite some heavy rain) so I'm pretty convinced. I just hope that this is covered in the BMW extended warranty I bought.

Pretty sure it will be Paul.
If not kick up a fuss.
Otherwise i would recommend Darren Woods in Stockport.
He is an ex BMW Master mechanic. He is the only one I allow to touch my M3.
I know its a bit of trek but well worth it, believe me. Labour costs are a third of a dealer and excellent workmanship too.

Thanks Gavin - that sounds like a great lead. I lived in the Stockport area for 17 years so it's not far from my old stomping grounds!

Will first ask Rybrook BMW in Shrewsbury (where I bought my z4) if they know what to do (and if it's a warranty job more to the point) and will keep Darren Woods in mind if I don't like the answer.

Just for the record, Rybrooks have been superb from before I bought it up to now, 2 years down the line. Can't fault their people or their helpful approach. They really have gone the extra mile for me on a number of occasions. It just seems that sometimes dealers in general can't handle the "head scratcher" type faults very well and I think this is one of those occasions.

Yes I can highly recommend Darren and the boys they put my car right after Stratstone Jaguar Manchester (where I bought it from as a used car) made a complete bo**ocks of it !

A bit late, but just realised I didn't post the cause of the water leak.

It was a cracked plastic casing around the aircon radiator which is behind the dashboard. It was covered by the warranty, so no problems with Rybrook BMW Shrewsbury (who are generally excellent anyway).

No problems with water since...
