Paddle Shifters

I'm pretty sure I have asked about this way too many times, but I am still curious. How hard would it be to buy paddle shifters from one of the newer bimmers, with left down and right up, and rewire the Z so it does the same? Additionally, is it possible to rewire the existing paddles so that on the left pull would be down, push would be up, and on the right, pull up, push down?

I know what you are looking for, but the paddles themselves and hugely expensive if i recall rightly!

Yes you can but it requires some work with the wiring or at least flipping the internal button over and removing the up on one side and down on the other.

Then retro fitting the paddles you want.

Easiest way is to buy a spare steering wheel to work on and take the paddles apart.
 
Better off doing it yourself mate.

Since no one that I know has done it and you need to buy the parts yourself do you want to risk someone else failing?

Besides there must be plenty of specialist modifiers in the US who are keen on fettling with this sort of thing.
 
Is it possible to just buy a wheel from one of the newer like m3s or something with the paddles I already like installed, and just somehow fit it to this steering column?
 
Probably not, the electronics are different so unless you know what bits to change then no.

Why don't you just buy some paddles from storm motor works and fit onto yours when you change the left side to down shift and right to up?

Sorry to drag this up again but from reading the above thread link it looks as though it's a fairly simple job to replace existing old style paddles with the newer pull/pull style one's? No cheap option by the looks of it but maybe buying a wheel with them already on is the best way to get hold of a set?

I'm looking to buy a Z soon and will be doing the same job and there's a few wheels on eBay with these paddles attached for around £250. Could just take the paddles off and sell the wheel on to make some money back?

Is it as simple as that or am I dreaming?
