P1554 error code

Quick search came up with this:

- P1554 = Idle Speed Control Throttle Position Basic Setting Conditions not met.
Check to make sure the whole air intake system is connected properly.

Or...another description of this code (taken from the 2006 330i DTC list) is:

- P1554 - Engine Position System 'A' Performance (Bank 1)

I'd get it on a diagnostic when you can to identify and clear the code. Sometimes these codes just appear and disappear on their own accord so it may just be that but worth checking.

Just found this too. Looks like a fairly generic code so best get it checked out and sorted...

"Unfortunately this is a very vague code for what can be a complex problem. Before replacing any parts, you will need a diagnostic run with a BMW specific scan tool - this generic p code isn't enough for an accurate diagnosis I'm sorry to say.

I suspect the problem will be with a vanos solenoid, but there isn't enough data in this p code for me to say that with certainty."

thanks for the reply, those are the same things i've come up with too.

- P1554 = Idle Speed Control Throttle Position Basic Setting Conditions not met

this sounded about right as my car has stalled on me once and when i pull up to lights etc it drops a little too low then picks back up then all last week it cleared itself and the car was great, now it's come back again and feels like stalling at lights unless i put it into "N" then it picks up.

then i read about the vanos solonoid so now i dunno which it's likely to be :/

Tricky. Found this article. It's for an E46 M3 but may explain more if it is the solonoid. Def get it checked out as soon as you can. If its intermittent now it could quite quickly become more often.

cheers for that, read a few like that. If it is indeed the vanos or the solonoid i'd be doin this myself, i just need to get to it, from what pics i've seen it's different to get to than mine from a quick glance. i'd probably get the seal kit if i can and check the bolts out.

but what else could this be (Idle Speed Control Throttle Position Basic Setting Conditions not met) ?

Thats the only thing I can find as an alternative issue throwing up that code. Def seems intake ralated from what you describe. Maybe a fuel supply issue?

well i've been doing alot of travelling this week and all week you would think there isn't an issue at all. No light and drives perfect. strange. It's certainly intermitent. i'll keep my eye on it
