P0420 fault-

Hi all, during a nice hoon this afternoon my emission light came on AGAIN!! :headbang: -fault code read P0420- catalyst system efficiency below threshold (bank 1)
Anyone had similar?-came on after 2 miles ish of very bumpy road :roll: -thanks
 
I think that's a fairly generic code Andy, nasty fuel, o2 sensors? air leaks on the intake tube by the throttle body, even a loose fuel cap can trip that one, or a cat but I'd start with the basics :)

What engine BTW? I know the 2.0 guys have had several with that code but can't remember the cure.
 
Um I've got a feeling someone with the 2.0 and that code had a cracked exhaust manifold, which a few have had on the 2.0l

But I'd still eliminate the basics before panicking, get the code cleared, re-fuel with premium and give it a good run it will probably be OK. If it pops again think about o2 sensors first, inlet leaks or some of the other possibles mentioned on places like this http://robisonservice.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/those-dreaded-p0420p0430-catalyst.html
