What is going on here?? Is my car broken? Surely they're not that fast??

Guess you haven't a 3.0Si auto or 35i DCT then :D
Manual Zs From the off you'l struggle to match turbodiesel torque with NA petrol but maxxd out i think you would reach 130 before he did

Glad I grew up when I did, a fast car was a fast car, a family saloon was a famiily saloon

Nowadays you just cant tell, I just love the Z for what it is rather than what it can, cant beat. :driving:

Could have been remapped as there only something like 170bhp and my old Juke Nismo with 200bhp use to dispatch my friends quite easily.

Those 435d xdrive are seriously quick, recently went in a 440i and the pull it has is relentless and brutal.

Auto quicker than a Juan?!

 not tried one then :P

I had a 66plate c220 cdi auto for the last 10 days as a hire car in fact so I feel eminently qualified to my opinion ;)

To be fair it's not a bad car, but it's breathless at the top end, sounds horridly agricultural and would definitely be slower than a 3.0si...

However, if your encounter with the c220 was at say 70mph, in top gear and just flooring it, the diesel would likely have more torque so would be quicker... However if you were to select the lowest possible cog in the petrol and repeat the above, the zed should move fairly rapidly down the road!

Nobody has mentioned the Merc being auto :? I was referring to a Z auto either in 3.0Si or 35iDCT both of which would show the door with ease to a 220cdi

I'm so confused!

But yes completely agree with you - c220 is brisk but not a patch on the 3.0si or 35i!

Faster than you initially think these rep mobiles, but obviously not trying hard enough! :poke:

They don't hang about!

Went to Hartley Wintney a week or so ago, and coming home on the A30 an E220CDi in lease special silver with Xmas tree lighting and blingy chrome all over it becomes attached to my rear bumper, then at the roundabout for the A327 (Minley Road) it decided to use the right-turn lane to go straight on - and I got stuck behind a scrappage scheme Kia that was turning left down Cricket Hill Lane. :(

Still, after the Ely pub the road becomes a dual-carriageway so the diseasel gets put back in it's place (as in behind the Z4)!

By then the leptons are getting a bit high (!) so having made my point I don't get into a brake test for the B3272 roundabout, but the diseasel got in the right-hand lane and actually turned right this time!

Frustrated AMG owner maybe?

Ok, to put into context, e86 auto in sport in 5th at 75ish and this merc just drove by so i gave up... when i put my foot down in high gears, nothing much seems to happen, should i be going for 4th at those speeds?

Haha, next time put in 3rd,

A lot of these new diesel cars are mighty quick.
My wifes x3 35d can easily leave me standing as well as most other cars on the road. However with the roof off on a sunny day i know which i'd rather be in. 8)
