overheating problem

Strange one this..... the car appears to be overheating as the temp gauge shoots into the red forcing me to stop and let it cool down. next day the car is fine and all working as normal and then it comes back again. First garage was the local dealer, he said he could find no fault and all was well for three days then it happened again, took it to an independent but wasn't impressed by the place. next off to a specialist but they appeared to only deal in older cars...

this has left me to take it to the main dealer.. they have already had it three hours and are keeping it overnight to carry on testing. they are running pressure tests on the engine and are thinking it may be an electrical fault. all i can see if the bill rising

when i first picked my Z4 coupe up earlier this year i got 5 miles down the road from where id bought it and mine did a similar thing, the temp gauge went to the max & it was idling funny and it eventually put the engine management light on. Unfortunately i had a 4 hour drive back home so had to risk it n drove it home with the light on. once id got home the light went out after stopping at the petrol station back home. I got my local indy to plug it in and it came up with a coolant temp sensor fault, he deleted the fault & told me if it did it again then id need the sensor, but luckily it hasnt come back on. The car had been sat for a month or so before i bought it so it must have been a bit of condensation. Hopefuly this helps, but probably wont
