Overheating 'again' after replacement pump/therm & coolant?

Hi forum - New user so hoping I can leverage the fantastic knowledge from site users on what I've seen is commonplace issue!

I have an E85 2.5si Roadster, 92k, and was forced to call in roadside recovery after red lining 2hrs into a motorway trip. Subsequent BMW dealer diagnosis was failed electric pump, and thus I've had the associated work undertaken to have pump, thermostat, coolant etc all addressed - Upon call to BMW I asked 2 fundamental questions 1. Has the head been checked for sign of warp, etc 2. Likewise evaluation of engine block - The response to both was an adamant 'yes, all fine from inspection and no cause for concern' - And the car has been on the ramps for 10-15 mins running to ensure/validate temp regulation, non-idling etc - Peace of mind and a welcome relief for sure.

15mins after driving from the forecourt, the temp needle shifted from middle to red line within I'd say a minute or so, I was in town traffic but free-flowing - Managed to let it cool and got it straight back to the dealership (driving like Miss.Daisy) - you can imagine my state of mind :headbang:

I've been advised, following what looked like performance of a pressure test? That it maybe an air block (seen that on similar forum threads here) and a few more checks will be made to verify (which I am NOT paying for) no 'additional damage, etc.

I'm enraged - After having diagnosis, repair & completion/piece of mind I'm now climbin the walls awaiting the verdict (gd knows mr potential £) - Any thoughts on what could be 'underlying' that was so epically missed at first evaluation, or has someone missed a critical step in a process here that needs correcting?

Any wisdom greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum!

I quite understand your frustration. Most likely the problem is air in the system. Unfortunately, getting all the air out is not fool proof, it can take a few attempts. Try to be patient.

About the only other possibilities would be either a faulty fan or partially blocked radiator, either airflow or coolant flow.

Thank You!!! Will definitely wait patiently for the verdict on Monday, my sanity is holding up, just - Typically b the time I have my pride & joy back the weather will dissipate :driving: :worshipbmw: :-|

You will also find that they probably didn't test drive the car. I had an issue on my old 2.5si where it wouldn't get up to temperature. Dropped it at the dealers. Got a call in the afternoon stating all fine and no problem found. I knew this not to be the case so advised I would be down in the morning to take a tech out for a test drive.

We set off and within a couple of mile the tech said, it wasn't right. I asked if it was him who looked at it the day before. He replied no and stated they probably just started it up in the compound and left it. Of course with no air passing the rad it got up to temperature :headbang:

New stat fixed my problem.

Hopefully yours is just an air lock now.
