Got stuck on the A3 for three hours earlier today, engine heat hit the red mark and had to put the heaters to full hot (in this weather) to cool it down.
Sounds like a cooling fan issue to me :/ or is this the norm in such temps?
It's not normal, I've idled in traffic at 35C and the needle did not budge a mm, though it wasn't for 3 hours. Different engine too, not sure if 2.0s are any more susceptible, I wouldn't think so. People have had all sorts of cooling issues, so it's hard to predict what the likely problem is. Could just be low coolant, or the fan, thermostat, pump, etc.
The dash temp' gauge is not linear, it will show dead centre normal for readings between 75 and 113 deg C as the thermostat regulates engine temp between these two values according to driving conditions, if it moves above centre 'normal' it's effectively overheating (but not necessarily boiling over) so needs to be checked out urgently.
