Overhead garage storage solutions

Hi folks, I'm just in the process of converting a summer room back into a garage. The M now has a garage for the first time in my ownership :D

I have a quick question - the garage has a plaster boarded ceiling with spotlights in which I am keeping. I will have some storage in wall units and base units along one wall but I've been looking at ceiling storage racks (bolted to the joists). The one I'm interested in is at Costco. I've included the link below and I just wondered if anyone has fitted these or has any experience of them, or indeed any alternative ideas.

Many thanks in advance for any info/feedback.

I have something similar which I inherited with the property when I bought it. Mine looks to be a DIY job and looks double the width. I find it really handy for storing long bits of skirting, pipes etc. The good thing is that it I am able to open the roof whilst in the garage without hitting it :)

Not the best pic but you can just make out the storage above the car.

Looks a useful piece of kit , if the fixing points don't line up with the joists you could easily fit some 3x1 timber runners across ways , which may look a bit naff being on a plasterboarded surface but alternative is you will have to get into the void & secure some timber grounds in the correct positions

Part of the ceiling is exposed joists at the moment Mr W because it was previously two-thirds summer room and one-third garage/store (although it was never big enough to put a car in). So I think I'll order it and whilst the ceiling is exposed I can see if I need to do any preparatory work.

Appropriate timing for this thread as lately I've been thinking of overhead storage in my garage. It is small and won't allow a car and cupboards/shelves at the end unless they are higher up above the bonnet.

hiya mate
i had a similar problem , when we moved into our current property ,as i have lots of samples for work ,i needed additional storage space
A) i have lots of boxes of A4 shade cards which i used to unload each friday night along garage wall , when we had our MX 5 it all fitted in ok ,
B) we needed some where to locate a tumble dryer,
This is when we decided we were gettiing An E 89 ,storing the car outside i decided was not an option otherwise no Zed  i checked dims and realised wiith door mirrors folded it got past the garage door ok and once inside loads of room each side but storing shade cards on floor in garage now not possible, also we had tumble dryer problem , i then hit on an idea `Mini Pallet racking `located at the end of the garage ,with two side frames and two adjustable levels such that the lower level easily allows the car to go in and under it ,on this level we store the tumble dryer, the K4 karcher and my car cleaning kit , and untilll recently my shade cards for work ,on the top level my power tools sockets and gen odds and ends , the racking fits the garage width ,perfectly at 2220 mm wide and with a clear width span of 2100 mm ,its 450 mm deep from back wall to front of rackng and is 2000 mm high , all levels ar fully adjustable with lock clips ,its basically a half size version of a warehouse pallet racking system , and its very strong and very rigid , The nose of the Zed goes under the lower level with ease , i have rigged a system of wooden battens on the floor situated such that i now when the front wheels touch this i know how far too drive the car in , the zed is garaged every night and ive not had any issues or caused any damage at all, i have my racking about 250 mm away from the back wall to give more storage , also ive fitted additional chipboard acrosss the whole width that also spans the 250 mm distance gap to the back wall , the whole system is perfect , its V V strong and will not fail , it works , my system is the Longspan bay 2000x2100x450 x 2 levels only in Oct 2011 it cost £139 after vat , i picked it up in a Vauxhall insignia no probs ,
the company i purchased it from is
THE USED RACKING COMPANY IN SLOUGH TEL 01753 693200
hoping this helps solve your problem , it did mine ,enjoy
