Over-cooling?

Is there such a thing....as over-cooling?

Last couple of times I've been out in the zed I've noticed the temp gauge hasn't assumed the vertical as it normally has done.
I replaced the stat, waterpump and coolant last summer following an over-heating problem and it's been fine since then.

However, yesterday and today noticed that after the normal 10-15 minutes warm-up that the needle was parked on the next lowest marker from vertical for the remainder of the journey, not bang in the middle which is where I expect it to be usually.

I did notice the needle crept back to vertical when at a standstill, as per below...

My money is on a defective thermostat stuck open. (quick to fail but maybe you have a dodgy unit)

The problem with modern temperature gages is that they are 'over dampened'., meaning that a very wide temperature range will read the pointer bang in the middle (for example 85-120 is bang in the middle). They do this to take away concerns for the driver (as the real temperature fluctuates much more), but at the same time its hard to interpret what the acutal temperature is.

Maybe if you log your drive on the obd2 port with carly or torque, you can see the acutal coolant temperature and see if that fluctuates a lot when going on the motorway.

Bedankt Guido!
As ever, sound advice

I'll crank up carly and do a logging sesh. It's what I bought it for in the first place to solve the overheating problem last year. PITA to get it working tho.
Cheers
