While most might believe that the Catholic Church owns the cathedral, Notre Dame is actually owned by the French government so why would the church pay for repairs?
Because it was the owner/boss of their company who let this happen, either through negligence (i.e. watching angel/devil-porn on aether-tube) or He wanted it to happen (as He's decided He's fed up with Catholicism and wants to invent a new religion - veganism or something) :poke:

Although even I can't stand the 'broad' Scouse accent (especially in women) - it sounds like they're putting the accent on to sound 'hard' or 'street'.

Just sounds like someone who didn't go to school, or had so many hidings from their parents that they can't hear what they're saying.

My dad is from Dingle/Toxteth and mum is from Speke - but neither have strong Scouse accents - and neither does my sister or me. But my sister's children do :headbang:

My friend is French, she moved from Paris to Preston! She's not religious, but was very upset because she grew up close to Notre Dame and it held special memories for her. The fire didn't even register with me, but seeing it through her eyes gave me a different perspective; some buildings are more than the materials they are built with, and regardless of the religious angle many places of worship are spectacularly beautiful - York Minster for instance, ironically set alight by an 'act of god' when hit by a lightening bolt in 1984!

Im not religious in the least but i do like an old church or any historical building that someone has put time and effort into preserving, much the same as us and our cherished zeds. With regard to the palm oil i have stopped eating peanut butter to help save the orangutans, well that and it was making me fat as well.

i agree - its a shame as it is as you say a beautiful building in its own right. so erm.. was the fire an act of god then ?
