Outer Roof Fabric

Hello,

I'm curious as to who has replaced theirs or had to have it repaired. I've had a quote from the main dealer (which was stupidly expensive) to have a new one fitted.

The problem i have with mine is that while its not been slashed or cut it has suffered damage by a cat. The roof has little pulls on it, bit like those you'd get on your shirt/jumper if you got it caught on something prickly.

Would this be something that could be repaired? Are there specialists out there that can deal with this sort of thing? I searched google and see these repair kits for slashed roofs but nothing for "pulled ones".

Any help/advice would be really appreciated. I don't post much and tend to use the search function but can't find anything.

Normally i'd be pretty pissed off with something like this happening but i can't really blame the cat. His owners are simpletons and had they looked after it right in the first place i doubt he'd have been hanging round mine anyway. Thats another story though.

Thanks :)

Can't you get jumper "de-bobblers"? I've heard of them I'm sure.

Some people will have a fit but when I've had such damage to cloth seats, careful use of a Bic razor usually cuts off the offending straggly bits without damage....just use a brand new one so its sharp and imagine you're shaving your goolies when you do it...(not that I do I hasten to add!!!!!!!!).. :P If you can, push up from inside the roof so that the piece you are shaving is every so slightly convex.

A ladies one is probably more gentle but I'll leave that to you.....I have to go and iron my frock.

Y'know i'd never even heard of these debobbler things before so will give it a go. I'm going to get the blades too. I'm told the venus leg shavers are excellent so will post before and after photo's...of the roof obviously

Thanks again :)

Hat's off to you if you can do said goolie shaving in the Zed, while 'pushing from inside the roof, so the bit you are shaving is slightly convex'.

any pics of the damage? If there are threads hanging, not sure if 'the goolie shaving method' would be best. Methinks that's best for bobbles, not hanging threads. Make sure you spray it down with a good soft top protector to make it water tight

They're mainly small bobbles and really only visible out of sunlight. The material is pretty tough though. I'm not sure the battery operated debobbler will be able to hack it. If not, goolie method it is

Will go get pics in a bit.

Picture as promised,

This is probably the worst of it. I'm hoping the debobbler or razors will save it but if not looks like christmas is cancelled.
