Out of the z4 - in to the BMW 7 series

I'm another fan of the 40d engine. Had it in the old 2012 F13 640d, and also currently got in a 2024 X5 40d as well. The engine doesn't feel as strong in the X5 though...because the X5 is 600kg's heavier than the 640d for example!

I'm thinking I may default it to sport individual (instead of comfort). Bimmercode will be able to code it so the last used mode is always selected.

The performance in sport mode (engine wise / gearshift) is really nice - deceptively fast. It's annoying sluggish away from the lights in comfort mode - I'm used to be being first away & sprinting off into the distance.

Sport box & throttle / comfort suspension / comfort steering - might be the sweet spot.

I do quite a lot of 20 minute type journeys - so this might even help keep the juices flowing & avoid buildups of gunk etc.

Also realised today that I haven't put fuel in it since mid September - done 700 miles & still over a quarter tank remaining :)

6 months update (4k miles) - completely drama free.

No surprise discoveries, car running great. Not done anything else to it after the initial purchase fix ups covered in the initial post.

MPG around town steady mid 30's, any motorway run longer than 30 minutes I'm seeing 50-55 mpg.

Played with the self driving tech - most of it is bollox. Radar cruise incredibly good - also liking the blind spot detection & junction radar (brilliant for reversing off the drive).

Best parking beepers I've ever had too - display seems to cover a full 360 around the car with what looks like 20+ sensors (no idea how that's done).

Becoming a fan of the perfume ioniser thing too - smells nice after a trip to the tip, clears the stench in 2 minutes flat.

Boring - but decent.
