Out of an Exige into a Z4m roadster

Hi Guys,

After having an M135i a few years ago and swapping for en Exige S I'm happy to be back to the relative luxury and general lairyness of a sapphire black z4m roadster I bought yesterday. I tried a Cayman S but it just didnt have the same feeling of power and bore scoring scared me

Looking forward to getting more involved on here, info was really useful when leading up to buying. Now need to sort out a few niggles including a wing mirror adjuster that wont go left and Bluetooth that disconnects as soon as a call is received!

Welcome to the Forum,

Get some Pics up ASAP :)

What did you think of the M135i and Exige S out of interest?

Will do once once the weather picks up as my underground carpark isn't the best backdrop!

M135i - great engine but more torquey than free revving. Loved the burbles it made. I only do ~5k miles a year and the depreciation was getting to me though and I wanted to start doing track days

Exige S (07) - Made me smile every time I looked at it and properly frantic at full chat with the supercharger screaming just behind your ear. really easy to DIY on too as you can basically take apart the whole car with a bike tool. Tough to live with as only car though as boot opening tiny (actual boot size not that bad) and getting in/out to open my car park gates was always a faff. Bought it mainly as a track toy and it was incredible for that but I always felt a bit bad as it was such a nice looking thing to be abusing so.

Track duties now handled by an e36 328i I've bought with a mate which is fully stripped with roll cage, gaz golds, m50 headers, slicks etc

Would love to own an Exige but it is just to $$$ to maintain where I am and too flashy as well.

Welcome and hope to see some pics of your M roadster!

The maintenance wan't that much tbh and it's easy on brakes and tyres (even on track). The main expense is the constant temptation to mod the bits that lotus didn't quite get right (terrible gear linkage, exhaust that weighs a tonne, intercooler with heatsoak issues etc)

Welcome to the Forum - good choice of ///M

My brother in Law keeps bringing his S up to Northumberland for the roads - amazing performance

Hi and welcome. I've been tempted in recent months by Elise's but think I have decided it would be too raw.

Sticking with the ///M for now

We do need pictures though :poke:

Welcome, a good choice and you picked the best one as the roof comes off.
Look forward to seeing the pics.

Welcome to the forum.

Always loved the Exige  , never been able to fit in one.

:worthless:

That's a heck of a place to take a nap...

As for the Exige to Z4m migration, I would say that you definitely made the right move.
Congratulations.

Welcome to the forum. Your mirror issue, can you hear the motor when you press the button in that direction, if so, it maybe the mirror has just popped off the frame that moves the glass. If you get no noise from the motor, it may just need the switch/motor terminals cleaning.

The issue is with both mirrors and no noise is made so must be the switch. I need to take it back to the dealer anyway as I went for my first 'proper' drive yesterday and noticed an intermittent loud clattering coming from the engine at random revs when under heavy acceleration. I'm assuming this isn't normal!?

Is it coming from the airbox? That can "clatter", especially if you under-gear (e.g. 3rd off a roundabout), although it is less prominent with the stock unit that aftermarket (carbon) ones.

No it's more at higher revs. I happens most of the time but never at the same part in the rev range. Going back in tonight so hopefully will find out what it is soon.

Another common noise is the "Vanos rattle", but that usually seems to be reproducible in the 2-3k rev range. There's also the exhaust shields, which can rattle if they have broken welds, but of course this noise would be coming from the rear of the car.

Good idea to get it checked up straight away!
