My wife's a social worker you wouldn't believe the s**t she has to deal with on a daily basis

She probably shouldn't be telling you anything tho!

(But I know what you mean)

The more I think about the more I think the death penalty is not the answer.

We need a bloody cull of the pond life !

She never tells me anything about specific cases just general stress relief

Hence the " I know what you mean"

Give the perpetrators ASBO's! That'll learn 'em!

I lean more towards the American's justice system, why can't we try our scum under their courts! That'll REALLY learn 'em!

Just been reading the story in your second link, I find it really hard to understand how the hell a jury, can find them only guilty of manslaughter, this is also a sick, despicable, evil crime, I’m not saying we haven’t always had some pretty despicable stuff happening around us but it does seem to be getting worse and we seem to learn nothing from it, it just gets worse and worse.

Yep pretty sad state of affairs.

Time to bring back the death penalty !

I’ve always been against the death penalty but I am starting to wonder, we really don’t want these sick bas***** being part of our society, there has got to be some proper consequences

What I can't get my head around is how can somebody physically do that to another human being, it beggars belief. It's tragic.

The death penalty is too easy. As a Dad myself I can imagine how her family are feeling. I know that if a simlar thing had happened to my daughter when she was younger then the realisation that nothing that is done could bring her back would be very hard to come to terms with. But, I'd feel a whole lot better if I knew her tormentors had suffered as much as she had. If the law wouldn't do it then I would, they'd have to lock this scum up very tight after the guilty verdict because I would pay a lot of money and do time in hell to see they got was coming to them.

How long do we have to see schoolteachers and young kids horrifically murdered before the people who are supposed to be running this fucked up society of ours take notice of what's going on outside of their own nice, safe cocooned environment? The danger here is that if the law won't do anything to address the growing problems then we're eventually going to see vigilante style mobs springing up everywhere and innocent people are going to get hurt.

The lunatics have taken over the asylum!

Liberalism is a mental disorder.

And we've had too many liberal, apologist arseholes in politics for way too long.

Hopefully Farage will upset the gravy train sufficiently for some real change to take place !

And that's the irony Dewi, I don't disagree with you but you set a vigilante group up and you would'nt last 5 mins, they'd find the time and resource to have you in the clink quick sticks, "can't take the law into your own hands sir",

"Well you sort it out then"

"Can't do that sir, cutbacks" What is it going to take for the powers that be to twig the things you don't cut back on are education and discipline and teaching right from wrong from day one, deterrents and law enforcement and the NHS, obviously we could have a debate that would fill the forum on how to do that but I think get the basics right and the rest will follow. There needs to be a moral discipline, I'm all for a free society but I don't get how people can be happy earning a living by making the most violent computer games possible etc, obviously violent computer games, violence on the net etc don't automatically turn you into a physyco but it does'nt help and young kids can see this stuff and then they grow up with it, coupled with the wishy washy p.c brigade that shoots anyone down who says the truth about issues affecting the country and here we are. You're right it's a crazy screwed up place we're in right now and it shows no sign of slowing down.

I wasn't condoning vigilante groups John, just saying that a danger exists whereby they could start to appear if the Govt don't provide some real punishments for the perpetrators of violent crimes, especially against children. Jo public is going to start demading his pound of flesh.

No I know you wer'nt Dewi, I just meant one would'nt last if one was set up by whoever, shame as they'd prob do a better job but as you say innocent people would get hurt.

I'm with you on the retaliation thing as well, if someone did anything like that to my young son I would'nt be able to hold back, I hate violence but that'd tip me over the edge.

What effect does heavy / real punishment have on violent crime in the USA ?

(I'm certainly not on the side of pat the little angels on the back and give them a holiday brigade - I'm only asking the question)
