I thought he would be away already (bit too keen) but I seriously doubt he can ride this out even if no one else wants the job!

Indeed. Strictly speaking the Queen is, though He is also Sue Gray's boss.

In my book it matters that those making the rules should follow the rules. That's what leadership is about especially at times of crisis when trust is required and millions are being asked to make sacrifices. In that sense it's irrelevant that others (a minority probably?) may have also broken the rules.

It's the job he always wanted but is the most unfit to do. We need leaders with integrity and conviction not ones whose sole purpose in life is looking after themselves. I think the bufoonery is an act, underneath is a narcissistic and calculating self server. He wants you to get bored with it by stretching it out, brushing it off, making a joke of it, hoping that other events will come to his rescue, its his modus operandi. Cant wait to see the back of him. Unfortunately we are not exactly blessed with high calibre possible replacements but that's what happens when people stop caring about these things.

That's a wonderful ideal but where do you find them?

The problem with the sort of politicians that end up being in positions of power is that they've had to rely on patronage when building a support base 'on the way up', and owe so many favours in return, that integrity and conviction become nothing more than meaningless words.
