Oulton Park club driftday May 9th

We are running a Trackaction-Online club driftday at Oulton on Saturday May 9th and would like to invite any interested Z4 owners along

We run these days on the low friction tarmac drift stages on the infield; the surface is ideal for car control practice and drifting and causes virtually no tyre wear even after a full day on track!

Here are a few photos from out last event -

We limit the numbers to ensure that everyone gets plenty of track time and free instruction is included. Don't worry if you haven't tried drifting before, you'll be getting the tail out very easily and there's plenty of room if you get it wrong occasionally! This is a great fun day out, more relaxed than a trackday and guaranteed to put a grin on your face that will last a week!

List price for the day is £140 but we do a club rate of £120 so shout up if you'd like to come along!

Could be even more tempted then.. thanks for the PM!

My rear tyres are borderline, so will be swapping them in a few weeks.

Would I get away with a drift day on them, then swap them out straight after? Presumably the low friction means they're not too bad...

Typical wear is less than 1mm over a full day drifting so no worries there.

The armco is on a short section on stage 2, we always recommend that drivers go easy on the entry to that section for the obvious reasons but it's never caused any problems on our days there. Some of the guys go pretty quick into there as they build up their control and confidence but a slow entry is safe and easy and it doesn't detract from the rest of the course :) .

How much track time are we talking? Are passengers free? How many drivers are allowed for each car? :D

Typically you would do a lap and then queue for only about 2-4 minutes to go out again so you could do easily do 100 laps during the day. During the quieter parts of the day you may only have one or two cars in front of you when you finish your lap in which case you could be back out in under a minute. Obviously the length of the queues during the day depends on how many cars are running or resting at the time and which stage is proving most popular as you can move between the stages all day.

In terms of value and fun factor the feedback we get is generally even better than our trackdays (and we run open pit days with no queues!).

It's £10 for a passeneger and £35 for an extra driver, instruction is free all day.

This is incredibly tempting.. It's going to be one of those things I really regret if I don't do it, isnt it?

Someone convince me and come in another Zed ? JDMc - you got a MC ?

Only £20 of it I'm afraid

I'm supposed to be marshalling on the main circuit that day for the MGCC meet, so I don't think turning up in my oranges and then 'forgetting' to sign-on will go down too well. I may watch a bit if I'm on the right post, and may be tempted to have a couple of circuits on a £1/lap basis

Hi all, I was abit unsure about the whole, no wear and tear thing from these driftdays so I asked around on another forum I visit (not that I dont trust you Steve H :P).

These are quotes from a forum member with a M3 CSL who lives just around the corner from Oulton Park.

"Tyre wear won't be an issue even when if it's dry. The tarmac surface is ultra low grip.

You also won't be hitting any barriers. There are couple of places where there are close barriers but you shouldn't be doing anything risky at those points.

As Housey says the main issue with those circuits is the area just off track - lots of holes and general crap to cause damage to your tyres/wheels/suspension even, which is easily done if you're holding the back-end wide in those areas. You just need to be aware where the risky bits are and tame yourself.

You'll learn a lot from it. "

Then a guy came on scaremongering about screwing up his tyres and gearbox at santa pod... to which he replied with...

"As your talking specifically about Oulton Park you should ignore the warnings of worn out tyres, broken suspension, bird flu and pig death.
I've done probably 20 of those days over the last three years or so - never any tyre wear or broken bits."

Just thought this might help to put a few peoples minds at rest with regards to actual wear and tear. I was dubious at first about it causing very little wear on tyres but the above poster is a very well respected guy on those forums and if I can convinve a friend to come along next week I will definately be booking up :)

I only live around the corner so will blast down there for a look ive seen it before looks good fun just fitted new tyres and wheels getting refurbed so better not go on my self although maybe another time :driving:
