One to ponder and be grateful for?

The better half has an issue with her Golf GTD so I placed a thread on three of the most popular VW forums asking for a view.

So far 24 hours later, zero replies and minimal reads- :o

Not like our wonderful forum eh- by now if I'd done the same on here I'd have had at least a handful or sarcastic comments... and maybe some pointers/offers of help

The difference is night and day

Happy Friday

Stuart

As Andy mentioned, I have had Golfs since 1983 (no diesel though) and I am sure many others have those.

Good shout all- thanks

If she's really struggling with her Golf, maybe she should try her hand at Croquet? :poke:

See- thats what I'm talking about!

That's 'cos Z4 owners are old and still using old-fashioned forums. Everyone else has moved over to these new-fangled social networks :D

I think I’m officially old then

How do the yoof do it now? TikTok?

I have to admit I went down a TikTok hole a while back and lost 3 hours so…

I have got VD if you need to do any diagnosis Stuart.
Just to show I can be as childish as some other members on here.

I still have a Finbarr Saunders double entendre moment every time someone quotes VAG for that particular manufacturer

Not exactly the yoof but for most marques Facebook is a much better source of immediate advice if you're stuck and need help. I however am also grateful this this forum is a notable exception.

I have tried a few car forums, over the years. FCUK was pretty good. Though a little officious. There was an official annual dinner etc, not for me, though I enjoyed the chat. Then the Mazda MPS forum. Good bunch of lads I organised I few runs out, but that one moved to FB, not a place I frequent unless forced to. The Z4 forum though somehow outshines them all. Despite having me aboard. :D :driving:

Exactly that. But it's not just the demographic; roughly 45-65 on here from what I've seen. For some reason, which I can't work out, the majority of people who regularly frequent this forum are 'like-minded', ie don't take this place, or life in general I presume, too seriously. Generally people are helpful and generous with their knowledge; basically just decent everyday people.

I have started to frequent another BMW forum which has a lot of 'oneupmanship' going on and there are a LOT of arguments. It's OK but not a patch on this place.

The web is littered with 'empty room' forums, still hanging on with no-one around cos everybody's moved onto facebook pages. It's actually quite sad.

The Golf R forum is pretty healthy still, though.

What on earth are you doing on a Golf R forum
I joined it as I very nearly bought a golf R estate last year and always research my cars. I didn't get one in the end I got a Focus ST estate instead but that only lasted 5 months. The rest is history.

Yes, about 5 years ago we bought a Ford Focus Cab, some might not like it but it’s quite a nice easy going car, cheap to run and has 4 seats. Anyway I decided to join a forum as there is no Haynes Manual for it. Seemed okay at first, everyone nice and friendly like here but they all started going over to face book. So I left. Before I joined this forum and about 2 years before buying my Zed I read lots of threads about everything Z4 to get info on the cars. Seemed a great place with lots of friendly folks who were happy to give advice on everything, so I joined and blo*dy glad I did. I scouted other Z4 forums but they seemed a bit rude to each other in a non joking way. So very happy to be here and I am out on my first run on Sunday in Devon.

Not strictly true. It's because this community is strong enough to exist stand alone outside those social networks and happens to be run on a traditional forum website.
