Other drivers flash lights at you for having Xenons?

Anyone else find this? Since the dark evenings have drawn in I`m finding when I drive through country roads I`m getting flashed quite often by oncoming traffic. I can only assume that they mistake the bright white light of the Xenons as full beam use, when actually it`s not. To make a point if someone does this I now flash them back using full beam hopefully to indicate to them that I wasn`t actually using full beam.

Yep.. all the time.
One swift flash back usually gets the point across and I've had quite a few people indiciate they accept their mistake as they pass by.

Have you had your lights measured to find out if they are too high? I recently had mine adjusted as people were flashing me for this very reason. An MOT station will do it all for a fiver or so.

Never had this really. Although it seems like i get flashed by cars behind me.. :?

Xenons are sometimes disconcerting. Moreso, when cars go over humps or a road is uneven. When the cars bounce the xenons seem to "flick". But after a second i realise they are not flashing, its merely the design of the cars.

Your lights must be adjusted too high to dazzle, especially as you're lower than average cars already, so should cause less dazzle than in the reverse situation of say, you looking at an oncoming 4x4.

Flashing back is a natural reaction (and I do it too if people won't dip), but I do worry, especially on narrow lanes, if 2 dazzled drivers are better than 1??

If flashing I think pulling the stalk to trip the halogens onto main for a fraction of a second (flash to pass) is way better that pushing the stalk away that activates the shield and releases the full xenon 'main' too.

I sometimes get 'flashed.' What they usually do to me is put their mains on just as theyre going past me... So basically you get a BIG flash of light on the most sensetive part of your Retina - thanks! :headbang:

I usually find it only happens when the car is dirty so i have a cloth in the boot with quick detailer to clean the lights. The auto-washers are a bit crap. :)

I got flashed a few times and that's with (uprated) halogens. But my MOT a few weeks ago came back fine - the light adjustment was spot on apparently, so no idea what other folk's problem is. I've also got the same bulbs - Philips Xtreme +80% - in my van and I've been flashed a couple of times in that too. It could be the +80%, but still legal, aspect that's the "problem".

And I agree with cj10jeeper about 2 dazzled drivers being worse than 1, and for that reason I just give a quick flash-flash and leave it at that. If they don't take the hint from that then nothing beyond is going to change their mind...

Car had MOT end of July so lights should be fine.
Agree, 2 dazzled drivers not good but some of these folks have switched their full beams on permanently to blind me (so not just a flash), and am not having that.
One reason I wanted Xenons was to improve night time driving. If other drivers think I`ve got fully beams on and decide to return the favour, it's actually makes matters worse as I can`t see bugger all then.

Yes, I have my finger on the trigger now ready to blind any oncomers who fancy a duel. :D

Since getting mine with xenon's I've had the same a couple of times. Same as when I had my last MINI with xenon's!

Range Rovers seem to be the brightest when dipped!

Yep, all the time. It happened with my Cibie's , my Hella's and with all the Xenon's. A quick burst of daylight usually tunes them in to their mistake.

Let me take this opportunity to apologize to all the people who have been subjected to my lights when i forget to dip them in time, ooops, Sorry. I'm sure we all do it.....

Happens on occassion - I like to return the favour with the Nightbreakers

Yeah, happens to me qt often, and even when its just been motd too!!
Like u guys,i do give a short blast of main beam to make them realise thier mistake(works a treat)
:P

I have HID 6k kit it is so bright but i manage to lower the light to the trunk level.
It is still bright, but i really don't care , it's not going to kill someone for having HID :)

I love driving on canyons , curvy mountain roads etc at night.
never had problems, but i turn my lights off for oncomming cars sometimes if I just pass a bad curve

Haven't had it yet, and I had xenons on my previous car and nothing with that one either. I often get flashed for overtaking though - increasingly that's becoming a crime.

Not relevant to the OP, but I always flash people with their front foglights on when it isn't foggy. :headbang: Sorry, but they do nothing other than dazzle oncoming traffic, and don't get me started by people who use their rear foglights in a light drizzle.

Don't forget all the Xenons are self levelling, unless they're aftermarket.

I love how mine point up and down as i floor it 8)

on the negative side, sometimes i want foglights too.

Don't forget Andy that's only self levelling to the position at which you statically set them. So if they are set to high the car is real good at keeping them too high :)

Happens to me but I resist the temptation to 'flash' back - other guy careers of the road by being dazzled.....whose at fault?
