Other Cars Wanting to Race the Z, Is It Just Me?

Firstly what a great weekend of weather for April :D living in north Essex means I have some pretty good roads to get out on. The roads lead into pretty villages where with the roof down I just cruise at 30mph or less and then usually accelerate hard in 2nd so I get to hear the V6. :D
Today especially it seems all sorts have wanted to try and keep up and really push their 4x4s, Honda Accord estate, fiestas!
Is it just me or do our Zs bring out the devil in other car users?

I think it's a jealousy thing in truth buddy.

People kind of think that if you drive a Zed, either Coupe or Roadster, then you are out for a bit of 'catch me if you can' run.

We just amble on regardless of other eejits on the road but open it up when it's safe and clear to do so.

Had some bikers behind us today going up a very steep hill in a village near us, national speed limit, so I put my foot down as we went up the hill but kept over to the left so the bikes could fly by. One of them, doing 60mph+, came past me on one wheel and carried on wheelying up the hill while changing gear, ballsy skill indeed.

Bikers do show more respect than other drivers though I must say, as shown above, the ones who passed me on 2 wheels all acknowledged me pulling to the left to let them past.

Can't be arsed with the spotty 17 yr olds in their souped up Fiestas and Puntos ... Yawn. I generally rev it a little at the lights if one of them is being aggressive next to me , but of course the I6 is soooo quiet. I then pull away very slowly and they look like dicks. See Apollo 13 with Jim Lovell in his Stingray :-)

I know what you mean. I get a fair few tailgaters trying to push. I just ignore, unless I was planning to open it up anyway.

I like the pics. I was parked in exactly the same spot last Friday! It's lovely up there. Great for access to the graveyard (to tend Grandparents' graves). I'd never get onto the green!

Totally agree with you Nb67 bikers seem to be so much better!
MHZ plenty of space on the green today which was unusual. I agree it's lovely out there in Suffolk. England is simply stunning on days like this :D

I tend to agree that its an envy thing. The worst combination is a bloke in an ordinary car but with his girlie alongside.

Most assume that the Z will be a hairdressers car (typically they are right, but not the 35is  ). Their assumption typically leads to their loss, if i can be bothered. I agree with the comments above, just let them go (unless its another Z, then its 'visors down'! ).

You get it in every car. I get it less in the R32 GTR, it seems to get more respect not sure if that's because people recognise the car from pistonheads etc or just an appreciation of what it is or not knowing what it is but I got some knob in a E91 320i touring edging further, further and further at a set of lights the other day when I was in a V8 Supercharged RRS. I didn't even have to give it any for it to leave him.

To be honest I can't be assed with folks wanting to 'race', prove their 2.0l is amazing or whatever makes them tick. If they are wanting to kill themselves, possibly cause an accident then they can fire on. I'm not wanting caught up in it, likewise I don't want anyone else being caught up in any carnage they may cause.

The one thing that I'm always weary of is unmarked Police cars and bikes, they are around and will allow drivers to push past the speed limit before hitting the blue lights.
Once saw a 911 giving it large down the motorway with a Audi saloon following it, went past it being pulled over by the Audi, a few miles down the road.

I just don't bite when I'm driving the Zed. The boy racer in me still comes out to play in my little Mazda occasionally.Bit more of a challenge. :driving:

Usully get them race up behind me an itchin to get past, had one nobhead last nite , followed me on a nice stretch of rd fron chaple en le frith to glossop, right up mi arse, every slight hill dropped back , no power, then on the downhill stretch into glossop overtook me very slowly an cut in front , tbh couldnt be arsed with it, one blip of the throttle I could have caused him a lot of grief, but there was a car comming up so didnt wanna cause trouble for other innocent motorist,
Fkn nob heads.

Have similar experiences on our 200 yards of dual carriageway down here - had a boy racer blast past me recently - he must have touched 40 mph at one point - I just let him go

I get it occasionally, usually let them go – it’s their licence. But I’m only human and occasionally I put my foot down. Like yesterday: I pulled up to a set of red lights in the outside lane before a long stretch of dual carriageway, and was aware of a tasty looking white Merc 5 back in the inside lane.
With my roof down and my car being bright red it’s hardly inconspicuous. Anyway the next thing is the Merc decides to pull up behind me – he’s got his fog lights on, and it’s middle of the afternoon – you get the picture. I think there were 2 passengers, and it was pretty obvious they were sizing me up.
So the lights go to green and I pull away, fastish but with lots in reserve. I’m in 4th and of course he’s there behind me matching my pace. The road ahead is clear and he’s a tad too close for comfort, so I drop the Zed down to 3rd, and with the revs at 3.5k I plant my right foot. The Zed launches itself forward and the revs climb as that wonderful straight six sings into the 6k range. Changing up to 4th and a quick glance in the mirror and the Merc is left for dead.
Then I ease off as a roundabout approaches, and of course he’s then chasing me down, and as I turn right he screams down my inside – desperate to get ahead.

I had an brand new m4 in front of me at the weekend. He pulled away from the first set of lights quite sharpish so I followed respectfully. He did not like that one bit and floored it (brand new so possibly not all the way but the M4 make a great sound), relay didn't like that he wasn't pulling away. Half a mile down the road he pulls into the outside lane at lights and let's the car on the inside go first, this leaves me behind him so I thought ok I'll watch. He floored it and by luck more than judgment just managed to get infront of the the car he let go before the road went to single carriageway, narrowly missing a bollard. NOB

Unfortunately I started experiencing this ever since I got the Z4. Never had anything like it in my other cars (Civic, Yaris, Corolla) for obvious reasons. :P

The funny thing is, I suspect some of them just give up when they see my 16" wheels. I guess they give the message that I am not into looks, showing-off or street racing. I am not interested in Ricers, Boy Racers, White Van Men or Company Car Lunatics... :x All I want is to accelerate to the speed limit as quickly as possible, by myself. Everyone else can do whatever the hell they want. Therefore I just let them pass or simply ignore them.

A more interesting question for me is "Eventually I will see one of these NOBHEADS crashed at the side of a road after passing me. When that happens, will I stop to offer some help? Or will I just lower the window, point and laugh as loud as I can? "
