I earned a Master's degree in Middle East Archaeology and was working on a PhD when I scored a part time job working with computers - in the late 70's.

I got roped into working as a systems admin type soon after that with one of the campus mainframe sites (DECsystem-20/60) for a group that had ARPAnet connectivity and have been doing Sys Admin/Net Admin work ever since.

I am currently Principal Network Administrator for Clark County in Vancouver, WA. We run all of the networks for the County, the City of Vancouver, the local 911 center and several other smaller municipalities in the County. Mostly all Cisco gear with just under 500 network devices and about 5600 end devices including VoIP phones. I handle most of the design and config work for network routers, switches, wifi and network management software/hardware.

After doing my apprentiship in Joinery, I spent fifteen years as a session Guitar player, now own a Joinery manufacturing Company and seem to spend all my days shifting paper from one side of my desk to the other

I worked for Siemens in communications. I am sure every body over the pond knows Siemens. I retired in April 2001. I haven't missed a day of work since I retired. We do alot of spur of the moment things and jump in the Z and go. :driving:

I'm a senior traffic control engineer for a large london based trasportation organisation (hopefully soon to become a principal).

I get to set how the traffic lights and crossings operate and undertake reviews, build trasport models and computer simulations (and audit those of consultants) It's quite varied and I get to work on lots of interesting projects and schemes - some of which are high profile 8) Its mostly mathematical and problem solving but has a fair share of computer programming and working with bespoke systems to keep that part of my interest.
