So is his defence that he thought it was an intruder in the bog?

Surely he should've at least had some dialogue with the person on the other side of the door...from which he will have known it was his girlfriend, and not fired.

If they (she) didn't respond, you don't just shoot anyway. Whats the gun law/culture in that country?

Perhaps he'd had a few to drink and was .....

I read that one theory is he tried to breake the door down with a baseball bat duting a row as she had locked herself in there to escape him, he then shot through the door, he said he tried to break down the door After he realised he had shot her and not an intruder. This scenario sounds highly suspect toe , imagine the fear he put that poor girl through . Cant believe his version of events and would go with the prosecutions version of what happened.
 
If it was such a rough area where they have robberies then why wasnt his alarm on and why did it not trigger. Alarms are to warn you of intruders. Guilty as hell.
 
What a waste of a life.

I won't pretend I know all the facts, and I'm not a judge. However, firing a gun through a door when you know there's someone behind that door means you either intend to kill that person or you are so reckless as to leave no other possible outcome that the person may die.

On that basis, the intention was there to kill someone.

I find it hard to believe that he didn't know his girlfriend wasn't still in bed. I think he knew she was in the bathroom :(

He just threw up in court today when the post mortem report was being read out.

Don't quite know what to make out of that but it doesn't get my sympathy.
 
I don't think Reeva was in the toilet to hide from him as an autopsy found that her bladder was completely empty, which would only occur after urinating. Would seem that she was in the toilet for its intended use.

In terms of gun use the culture of gun use within SA is astonishing and most people cannot understand the heightened sense of anxiety that many have in SA unless you have a) lived there or are b) living there.

I'm not trying to defend Pistorious, his version of events are hard to logically accept. That said the prosecutions case it also littered with contradictions. I think a lot will come down to the forensic evidence rather than witness testimonies.
 
Sadly I don't think we'll ever have definitive proof either way and neither guilty or not guilty will be proved beyond logical doubt.

Whichever outcome occurs will be because of external variables rather than the relevant facts and testimonies, which is sad but I guess unavoidable.

Won't speculate as I haven't seen any of the court case and all I know comes from the sort of sources I wouldn't trust as far as I could throw. Will say this though, what a sad waste of two lives whatever occurred. Shame.

Every single person in South Africa will have heard of Oscar Pistorius. Every single one will have opinions and have heard/seen things about him during his life as a "celebrity". They will also have all witnessed various pieces of coverage, gossip, rumour given in the media etc both at the time of her death and ongoing during the case.

A judge will undoubtedly tell them to put those things out of their minds and start afresh with regards to the evidence given during the trial, but I doubt there's a human alive who would be able to do such a thing. In such a case as this, you'll never find a completely independent and impartial jury.
 
Really don't see the need for a trial. Anyone stupid enough to go shooting off a gun into a bathroom with first asking "is that you in there love?" should be locked up regardless.

ime sportsmen can be very aggressive, angry, entitled. When I worked on the Carnegie site there was always some sexual assault being dealt with. If I was female I would avoid eye contact. I find it depressing that sportsmen never seem to be short of choice. :(

As for Pistorius, I don't know but I won't be surprised if he spends decades in prison.

I'd like to think you are right Fin, but somehow I think his money and fame will get him off :(
