Oscar P. case

The defence's case got off to a start in court today. Sigh, I just think a lot of what Pistorius said is going to be to get sympathy. I know I don't know the facts and all the details, and crime is rife in SA with home invasions and involving guns however how can you shoot repeatedly through a closed door when the victim prob screamed after the first shot. However I guess there is a lot of adrenaline in that scenario and he may have repeatedly shot 'automatically'.

? nope , no way. doesn't make sense. They argue, she runs to the bathroom to get away from him.

Oscar, ... call the police because you have the "intruder" trapped in the bathroom, at gunpoint no less. Why didn't you call them? Because you knew it was her and you chased her there and you lost your mind and started shooting .....But did you lose your mind? nope, you went and got the gun and loaded it and then went to the bathroom area.... and then started shooting.

I hope you fry, you bastard.

Sounds about right.

his defence is pathetic, holes all over the place, and this crying and puking is doing my head in , it's all about him now..."poor little me, I'm so hurt because I shot my girlfriend " he should man up and take the punishment !

Couldn't agree more.

I don't like to make judgement on things like this because I only know what i pick up from bits of the press, leave it to the judges

Self-centred, selfish, pathetic, insecure bastard, the big man Olympic hero! I know what I think happened, but I don't count so lets see what the judge reckons.

I'm absolutely mesmerised by this.
Been watching it on sky news.

He is really shooting himself in the foot (pardon the non intended pun on both counts). He is stupid enough to not realise that if he would admit to being somewhat less of a saint who doesn't always walk away from confrontation rather he will steam in, he would come across better.
You know what tho, his story could very well be seen as probable. Don't be surprised if he is found guilty of a lesser charge.

In the best case for him, "accidental murder", what shall we say - still 7 years?

Murder in anger would be - 20?

I can't see any way they can avoid finding him guilty of culpable homicide but it'll all come down to the sentencing - he could get away with something as light as a fine...

...personally, I think he knew exactly what he was doing, and should be locked up for a very long time...

Based on what? Personal opinion, or evidence?
I followed the majority of the case on line and that was the opinion I formed - but I was also influenced by some of the things that the courts have to discount such as the way his defence changed over time and interviews with people who've known him since he was young.

I think that, when it comes down to it, he was a gun nut who really wanted to shoot someone and this was his opportunity to do it - I don't know if he'd had an argument with his girlfriend and knew that it was her in the toilet or if he really thought it was a burglar but I think he knew exactly what he was doing when he pulled that trigger.

I watched this nearly every day and my opinion, for what it's worth....

They both were in bed and he went to sleep after asking her to close the balcony sliding doors when she was going to go to sleep (there'd been a spate of burglaries) She fell asleep, he woke up and saw she hadn't closed the doors. He woke her up and they had a row. She got dressed and said she was going home, row got out of hand. She went to bathroom, he, in a rage, got his gun maybe to scare her. She locked herself in toilet, he shot at door.
I don't believe he planned a murder nor wanted to kill her but I think he has a short fuse/temper and acted irresponsibly and irationally and ended up killing someone.

I am wasted, I should be a judge.

The bottom line is what normal person fires a gun through a locked door without finding out who is behind the door first.
Someone behind a locked door is not a threat to someone with a gun until they open the door and go towards the person.
He could quite easily have kept his gun trained on the door and phoned the police.

I think this is the reason that the judge gave for Oscar acting negligently, so presumably she'll have to convict for culpable homicide.

But....what about her empty bladder and being sat on the loo? if you were that scared you wouldn't have a quick tinkle.

Sadly, we'll never find out the truth, but the prosecution made a mistake by focusing on premeditated murder.
