Hi,all.

My 2006 z4 3.0si has (i believe) the original phone cradle in place,

I wondered if anyone knew what make or model mobile it took.

I am thinking of getting an old phone,as an emergency call,to leave in my car,so wouldnt change the cradle.

Thanks.

The cradle had to be bought separately so could be for a number or makes and models

If you post a picture someone will be able to identify.

is the the phone cradle in the drop down cubby between the seats? if it is then you need to buy the adapter which clips into place after you eject the blanking plate

If you need a different cradle, I think I might have one for a Sony Ericsson (K800 type) and one for a Motorola something somewhere.

Send me a PM if you need me to look, as I think I've also got an old K800 lying around too!

Interesting idea but arnt you going to have to swap your sim into it every time? I dont bother with the cradle, just have a suction based phone holder instead (like on sat navs)

Thanks everyone for replies...

I will take a photo today, and post this evening.

It is in the drop down centre console

I wont change the sim card with my commonly used phone,as the phone i want to put in my car,is one i intend to leave pemanently fixed in and use as emergency only.

I bought one off Ebayer (gen bmw part) and it says make and model underneath the part number on the back.

Try ejecting it and see what it says on the back.

Also bear in mind you can only connect one phone at a time so not sure what this gain unless you're going to leave it switch off until you need it.

Bear with me guys,im trying photobucket for the 1st time.

Slightly off topic with the last snap, this is my boot...am i missing something in the space where the threaded bar is?

No cradle present. The cradle is phone specific and clips into the base unit which is what you have there. The cradle replaces the blanking cover you show and they state on the back which phone they are for (I think mine's a Nokia 6130 or something equally ancient).

Regarding your boot pic I think that is where the hi-fi amp goes if you have the upgraded option (I have a black box there). The ULF phone module is behind the hump in the carpet on the rear left of the boot scuttle if you have it (well it is on a roadster maybe different on a coupe).

If your car didn't have the phone gubbins in the cubby and you have added it to use you need to check whether the aerial is present also (might be in the bumper but not sure).

It looks like you need to buy the specific cradle insert for the specific phone you're getting, currently it looks like you just have the standard 'tray' insert which just pops out to be replaced with whatever insert you need to buy. Shape looks like the one I used to have in my 525 tourer, Nokia 6210.

It would appear the previous owner did upgrade the cradle to accomidate the wider phones though, but as above you have no specific cradle just the blank.

That's the same base I had to upgrade to so that I could use my iPhone 4s.

Looking at the 1st picture i posted.....

Am i right in thinking this is for an ipod?

If so,
would all ipods fit the fixture?
i'm looking at getting a 2nd hand one from fleabay,to keep in the car,
as i dont have a cd stack.

Cheers.

It looks like the correct interface for an iPod, but they did change a while back, and I've no idea what it's connected to. It might only be to charge an iPhone, or it may be a full audio interface?
