Oregon Leather and 108's

Just got the new Z4 from an AUC dealer - a couple of questions

I have noticed that the drivers seat is a little worn just as you get in on the bolster. Can it be recoloured or is a replacement panel available.

It has the dreaded 108's - look nice but some corrosion. Not much but a little around the allen bolts. Is this a warranty issue or do I have to get them refurbished. Much sucking of teeth at the dealer and "they all do that sir"

On a 04 you are out off warranty so you will have to have them refurbished, and you can dye your leather easy enough.

Its still an AUC so must have some warantee provided so get them to sort it, also go around the car and look for anything else dodgy while your at it, is the gearbox smooth?

You're only hope would have been prior to purchase. I'm afraid now you've driven off the forecourt they'll be less than helpful.

Corrosion is rare around the bolts. It's usually on the polished lip and on the inside edge. The 2 zones where the 2 parts of the rim mate and trap water, salt, dirt, etc and also in the case of the outer get kerbed and breach the lacquer finish.

Wheels are excluded from AUC warranty. Try Liquid Leather for the seats. Excellent products. I bought small repair kit for less than £20.

Yep, Gliptone Liquid Leather for the seat repair, great products and I've never heard a bad word said about them

As said too, AUC and almost any manufacturer corrosion/perforation warranty exclude wheels, for obvious reasons that they are easily damaged/chipped/dinked etc...

I stand corrected...

Don't think much of bmw selling cars with visibly corroding wheels though, all the 108's ive seen on forecourts have blatently been through the paint shop and have the lips painted silver too.

2007 car. I had new rear 108's fitted to mine because of corrosion! :wink: The inside rim is sort of plastic coated now instead of polished.

Can that liquid leather stuff be used on red seats?

Ive been quoted £90 for repair. He also said he'd do the rear seats free of charge which I thought was very generous of him

You need to provide colour code of your car, so they can send you the right colour repair kit. Check liquid leather website for details.
