Ordered my new daily driver...

I've been doing a lot of miles lately, so have decided to part with my faithful 2004 Saab 9-3 Aero. It's a shame, as it's the best (albeit not the most exciting) car I've ever owned and has served me well in the 8 years I have owned it. Unfortunately it doesn't make any sense anymore to pay high fuel bills for my daily car since I got the Z4 for weekends.

So here it is - 12 weeks to wait for delivery, but I ordered one of these:

The spec list is massive. Never had so many toys.... just need to stop being impatient now.

What do you think?

Looks very nice, did you go for a diesel blue motion by any chance

I did - the 140PS version. They do a 170PS bluemotion as well... but this is all about the economy now that I am doing ~140-150 miles per day! I did opt for the DSG gearbox though, as auto's are better for stop/start traffic.

I drove both versions back to back, and there wasn't all that much difference TBH... they are both slow, without being sluggish. Both have plenty of torque, so they are quite 'metronomic' in what they deliver.

I have always liked the look of the passat CC and when the time comes to replace the coupe with something more practical and more economical I may consider one but I hear so many mixed reviews of MPG... if I can get high 30's in the Z4 I need an ecomonical car to manage high 50's in my opinion.

My dad very nearly bought one when the first came out. He just couldnt get over the Passat association. In the end he decided against in favour of the A4 B8 but 3 years later they finally heeded his advice and dropped the passat name.

I had one for a 3 day test drive, covered about 730 miles and averaged a real 52mpg, although the onboard computer indicated a little higher. That was a good mixture of motorway and stop/start driving through southeast London.

I used to be of the same view wrt economy. My Saab can get 33mpg if I drive like a nun... But with the mileage I am doing, I want something that is economical without having to concentrate on it. In the Saab or the Z4 the economy is killed whenever I put my foot down. When I put my foot down in this, little happens!

I'm very pleased they've decided to drop the Passat bit from the name too. Although it's still basically the same car as before. If anything, I think the Passat CC is ever so slightly better looking than the CC.

Daily driver for me next fall, mini cooper S JCW in red prob.....the Zed needs to be a toy only :)

That just sounds like an excuse for two toys! Unfortunately, being a tall fat bloke... I need more space for my everyday driving needs.

I've had a few passats as hire cars.

Great cruiser, much better then the likes of a mondeo.

Its a great car, but I know what you mean

Pre face lift had a much nicer front end
Face Lift has a much nicer rear end

Funnily enough that's exactly what I said to a friend of mine earlier today!
