Orange Peel removal sapphire black ///MR

Can't believe those photos - particularly before and after - what an improvement! :o

That really is an incredible finish - is it a skill or an art :?

Fabulous work.

Looks great! What have you done to your paintwork and what products have you used?
Light wet sand meguiars 105, 205 and elbow grease its nowhere near the standard of your Z

well I went quite far with mine and the orange peel isn't 100% gone but it's not far off. I wouldn't be willing to remove any more clear though!

That is impressive and take some balls to do!

Did you use a paint guage? How did you assess how much to wet and dry off?

Would love to give this a go one day!

No I don't have one. Just took an educated guess knowing that it's factory paint and my judgement concluded that it had unlikely been machine polished before.
I do want a ptg but they're too expensive! And if I do go through anywhere I can't respray it myself so that's why I can take the risk lol.
Wouldn't recommend trying yourself though not unless you know a good painter or can do it yourself!
I have considered re-lacqhering the paintwork so I can get it all bang flat like the rear quarter.

Sounds perfect to me buddy  Once I find the time we will arrange it and get it sorted.

Sound :)
Send me ur dash parts and I'll get em painted + flatted and polished! :D

Stunning work sim. Looks like freshly applied wet paint!

Won't this affect the longevity of the paint if you don't re-lacquer?

No the factory paint is good quality, thinner paint is actually less likely to chip as well!
Also it's better than fresh paint, I believe rolls royce are one of the only manufacturers who do this from the factory!

Did some more today but not much as it started raining not long after I started :/

There are a couple of areas needing a bit more compounding which will be done on a dry day! But as you can see, looking much better!

Really nice work mate, I love wetsanding and re polishing, but I'd never do it on someone elses motor (well not one someone cared about).

 same here!
I would do it for someone else if they paid me A LOT! And accepted the risks.
I'm much more comfortable sanding the factory paint than parts that have been resprayed by someone else and likely flatted and polished to some degree.
Do you have a ptg?

PDG you mean? Yeah we do down at the unit.

The biggest problem is though, that a PDG will only tell you distance from top of lacquer to metal. So

a) doesn't work on plastic bumpers etc

and b) (this is the big one): that if it's not factory paint, you don't know if it's had four layers of primer, one paint, one lacquer.. It could read alright, but be the thinnest lacquer coat on earth.

I still have my compressor sitting there waiting for me to man up, I just need a man like yourself to teach me  It's my next skill I want to acquire. Painting 101.

paint thicknes, paint depth, same thing
Exactly! That's why I haven't invested in one. So with factory paint it's a little help, fresh paint it's not much use at all.
I know you can get the type that measures each layer but they cost thousands!
I learned how paint and correct paint at the same time. Obviously they go hand in hand really.
I don't think you can be classed as a good painter without having the knowledge and ability to fully correct/flat polish paint correctly.
My boss at work used to own a bodyshop. I've learned some things from him but he's very stubborn in listening to newer and better techniques that I use! Although I have got him to invest in a bottle of 3m extrafine and yellow pad. Instead of just using fc+ and "wax" lol

Edit: if you need any advice on painting just ask, love helping people try it themselves!
Tbh if you can wetsand and polish, you'll be able to restore a shite job anyway
