Orange engine light on?

Just got car back from dealer for a few issues (none of them engine related)

Dealer dropped the car off this morning

Driven the car for the first time since return tonight and the orange engine light has stayed on from the get go

Stopped the car and started it again and the light has stayed on for the rest of the journey

Is it safe to keep driving it? The car feels fine apart from the light

Presumably it could be caused by any number of things?

Generally it is ok to drive with an orange warning light displayed.
What symbol is on the light?

It's just an orange symbol of an engine?

According to the handbook ''exhaust emission values have deteriorated''.
Not come across that before. No doubt someone will throw some light on it shortly.

When I got that light it turned out to be a cracked manifold. But it could also be an O2 sensor

Get a OBD II Code reader from eBay around £35 to read the code fault. Otherwise a diagnostic check from the stealers which will cost.
Without knowing the code it's just guesswork since it could be a number of things.

It's under AUC warranty so will give dealer a call tomorrow, but going to have to drive it in the meantime

If they ask you to pay around £90 for a diagnostic check outright refuse - they should do that for free. Happened to a mate of mine yesterday with a 3 series and the dealer will back down :!:

If its AUC, let the dealer take care of it. Could be a one of a half a dozen potential things... none I which should be major.

I had the same light on mine, turned out to be a cracked intake hose... But you won't know until the dealer has diagnosed.

Hope they give you a courtesy car free of charge

had mine on since the day i bought mine on the 16th December! only got fixed last week, tunred out to be a split pipe just before the MAF, cost me £113

To answer the original question, it is certainly an emissions issue, it is completely safe to drive until you get it sorted.

I guess so. If it hasn't come on then a temporary blip I reckon. If you have the orange emissions light and then drive it through 10 drive cycles and the OBD doesn't detect the fault the light will go out. Always worth purchasing a code reader to read any fault yourself.

A similar thing happened to mine last weekend. I turned the car on, but didn't hold the key turned long enough to kick the engine fully into life, I guess this caused a temporary emissions issues and the light came on. After a 10 minute drive it went out and hasn't return since(touch wood..), which is good because my bonnet is refusing to open at the moment, not good.

As lillywhite said, it's a temporary problem that went away. However, the codes are still stored in the system. If you're a curious sort, you might pull the codes, could be a harbinger of things to come.
