You need a lot of music to fill the waiting time for when you are waiting for Smartbear to catch up ....
I know I shouldn't, but....

I plug my iPhone in to the USB under the arm rest and it all comes up on the idrive. /quote]
Do you just use the USB or use a Y lead that uses the aux and USB together?

Lightning cable straight from phone into the USB... not sure if mine being a later LCI model with the upgraded pro nav / Bluetooth music jazz makes a difference or not???

Quick question regarding loading files to the hard drive in the car.
When I tried this and then played the files back I had no album art but did if playing the same files from a memory stick under the arm rest.
Is there a knack to getting album art to show when playing from the hard drive?

This is normal. I think that to save space on the hard drive, it does not take the album art. I only see the album covers when playing directly from the armrest usb.

Thanks for explaining that - I had noticed that on mine that has the same system and could not understand why not.

Ah, that makes sense.
Just thought I might have been doing something wrong in transferring files across.
Thanks for explaining.

Is a 2008 E85 likely to have Aux & USB in the armrest?

Or if you ask nicely I'm sure Rob will sing you a song!
I'll just turn my walkie talkie off and as he'll be way behind us I'll never hear him

Also, if like me you have a 2010 model, the software is only coded up to an iPhone 5. Not my iPhone 5s. There is no software update option until the late 2010 models when they added the combox. My iPhone doesn't even work with the Y cable.
However, I have a 64Gb, USB 3.0 memory stick reformatted to accept FAT32 which is all the system wants to play with, with over 2000 tracks on it which plays perfectly well. No distortion, sound reduction, interference etc, and sounds just as good quality as the cars hard drive.
I just cut and pasted the music files from iTunes onto it.
The only mildly irritating part, is that because it files the tracks alphabetically, when listening to an album where it matters, you don't get the tracks in the intended order. You get them alphabetically.
Otherwise it works extremely well.
