Optimum No Rinse

People think a sponge is the devil... they are wrong.

A grout sponge has more open pores in it, and works very well with the ONR.

That's about the only reason TBH... and it's easier and faster than using a load of MF cloths!

Cheers Cueball.

I'll get myself some ONR on order and let you know how I get on with it!

Sorry, late to this.... I am not using ONR at the moment, but I have only been washing the car about every two weeks and don't have a jetwash. It's so dirty I don't want to risk it. I have been adding some to my normal wash mix though, about a tablespoon-full... Not sure if it's doing anything, but the car seems to dry more easily. I am going to save it for spring / summer months when the car is more dusty than dirty if that makes sense ?

ONR does seem to advocate adding to normal wash to add lubricity.I ordered some ONR yesterday so should be here today/ tomorrow. If it does turn up I might visit a jet wash spray off the worst of the crud, then drive it home and wash it using ONR.

Has anybody used ONR as a pre-wash spray to loosen dirt before a full wash? What sort of cencentration is required?

Naturally, I'm going to be very careful and slow the first time using it...fingers crossed

the cueball recommended this to me earlier in this thread after I 'published' my results - I've only used ONR to wash my car once, so will do this the next time I decide to use it on it's own.

Indeed, I put the ONR solution in one of the manual spray guns from somewhere like B&Q...

The strength is "a few glugs"... but IIRC it should be about 32:1

So the method is (lets use the drivers door as the example):

I would pre soak with the ONR glug solution, starting at the top, working left to right and cover the whole door.

Get the grout sponge into the 'proper' onr in the bucket...give it a few squeezes in the solution and the one or two out of it - the sponge should not be dripping wet!

Take the ONR'd sponge and gently follow the path of the solution... start at the top and go left to right... after each "pass" clean the sponge and repeat... no dot put pressure on the sponge when it's in contact with the car!

Once the whole door is done, dry off with a MF drying towel (some people put a very light spray on ONR on this to help out)

and Taaa Dah.. you have a clean, dry, swirl free door, with next to no water used and nothing on the driveway...

Sorry to ask a stupid question, but when you say each pass, do you mean a pass of the entire panel, or literally each horizontal movement?

That my dear fellow if all down to your confidence levels... :poke:

To start, I'll suggest each 1 horizontal movement...it will be slower and annoying to begin with, but I think it will help you out.

As you get used to it, and trust that it works, then you can change that to what you are happy with... I can do my S8 from start to finish in under 20 minutes now... takes me longer to get the PW out and 2 buckets filled up!

20 minutes is impressive (does that include wheels?). If I can do it in the same time, but with less water than I currently use I'll be happy.

Maybe silly question, but do you use ONR on all the window glass as normal? also any detrimental effect on the soft top fabric?

Yes I clean the windows with it and roof... I have had no side effects with the roof fabric.

Seems to be a pretty good guide here.

I'll be using the 1BM (not sure how I'll feel without my 2nd bucket) with grit guard and a noodle wash mitt (dithcing the lambswool)

Steve is a massive user of ONR, in all conditions... in fact, I would probably say he knows more about it and how to get the best from it out of anyone I know...

He just gave his Renault 5 that had been in storage for 15 odd years a quick clean with it, as it was getting put on a flatbed!

z4lincs, how did you go about using it? How dirty was the car before and have you noticed any extra swirling? How long did it take?

I missed my delivery yesterday so will have to wait a week before I give it a go. Just curious what you did.

Looks good from the photos though

Used a Microfibre sponge soaked in a bucket of water with the suggested amount of ONR. Did one panel at a time, and dried off each one with a Wooly Mammoth Towel before starting the next. The car wasn't too bad before, but the back and lower panels were pretty muddy as out in the countryside here. I think if it had been much dirtier I may have used another bucket of water half way through thats all. Didn't notice any particular swirling. Also sprayed the wheels with a stronger solution and left to soak for few minutes and they came up pretty well. Whole car probably took just under a couple of hours.

Seems pretty straight forward, and really helpful being on a water metre, without a hose! Good luck when yours arrives!

Due to the poor weather I've still not had a chance to give this a go.

A few reviews talk about creating a spray solution and leave to dwell before making any contact with a mitt.

I've also seen a few people raving about VP's citrus Pre Wash recently.

Does it make sense to combine the two? i.e. use the pre-wash to soften the dirt and then spray ONR on top and leave to dwell before cleaning?
