Opinions on this car please?

Hi Guys

Hope you're well.

My Housemate is considering going to look and possibly purchase the following 2.2 Z4 which looks like it has a few issues.

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...=Z4&make=BMW&postcode=bn36bf&radius=10&page=1

Obviously the main issue is the roof motor has failed. What's the rough cost of purchasing one of these? And what's the rough costs of getting it replaced?

Is doing it yourself a nightmare or just time consuming?

Car seems pretty cheap so if anything else seems out of ordinary please shout

There is a guy on this forum that fixes broken roof motors, he will also move the note into the boot. This will keep the motor dry.
I've just bought a Z4 30i auto I have to say it's not a bad car at all, I'm starting to enjoy it. However there isn't a lot to done on the car. You can pick up a good Z4 for 5k and look out for the ones with a full service history, be wary of the ones that don't

Going back to the roof motor, search this forum for motor repairs

Cheers and the best of luck
Scott

PS personally I bought form a trader. This gave me 3 months warranty and 1year AA cover. I also went onto .gov.vehicle this site will tell most things you want to know about the car before you buy

Cheers

2.2 kinda pointless engine in my opinion

Uses barely any less fuel than the 3 litre, but substantially less performance and same tax banding!

Get a chunk knocked off due to dead roof and then bring it to me, I'll fix it for £100 max, in about 45 mins...

Very misleading ad though.. Since when did the 2.2 have a timing belt? And yes, motors are about £160, but then add £500+ labour to actually change it... Unless you come to me that is...

2.2 is a great motor- straight 6 fun and ultra reliable. The roof is an easy fix via the forum and at the price that's a great wee car that needs some TLC that you won't lose any money on

as above looks to be ok but what is going on with those tints if you purchase would rip that straight out looks awful but apart from that not a bad canvas for mods

Thanks Guys, as mentioned it was for the housemate, i've already got my Zed :driving:

He decided against it, large scratch on the bonnet and alloys a total mess!

Thanks for all the advice anyway
