Why is REPOST and IBTL and +1 so taboo

Why?

Think about how annoyed you would be if you posted a thread and 5000 people went into your post and typed out 'REPOST' or 'IBTL'. You would have to scroll through pages and pages of 'REPOST' to see if anybody posted something worth reading. I would be annoyed... especially if I had to flip through 15 pages of that.

Now, think about it from a hardware/software standpoint. Think about how much space it would take up if those 5000 people posted in 5000 different threads the same REPOST or IBTL. That would take up a whole bunch of HD space and processing power to hold all that data. When you wanted to try and make you next post or upload your next attachment, if there was no HD space available, you would be rather annoyed. Plus, how about if you tried to make a post and it took you 30 seconds for the new post page to display that would be annoying.

Now... how annoyed would you be if you were trying to search for something relavent you needed but because the database was full of crap it took for over five minutes?

Sigh, unfortunately this is very true regarding the storage issue :cry:
I know that we have a lot of fun on here amongst ourselves in this regard, but as we exponentially expand, that can be a huge burden on the servers. I do propose that we limit the "Repost" tag to one thread with a link to the original (if possible). As you can tell from the other posts, this Forum is getting more expensive to maintain, and anything that we can do to make it a better place, and easier for Sp3ctre, is always good! :wink:

Hmmm, maybe we should implement this:
Q: Why did my post counter stop working?

A: Only posts in certain forums count towards your post count. If you post in a forum that is not on the list of forums, they will not increment your post count. Useless posts in relavent forums will also get moved to forums that do not count towards your post count, thereby lowering it as the posts are moved.

Yeah, I know, enough posting about the other site already! :P But I wonder if this was produced by our beloved Spokey,,,,,,sounds eerily familiar:
Trolls, Leg Humpers, flames/attacks, useless posts... have been on the rise lately and it's time to turn this trend around.

We are doing our best to provide a friendly atmosphere here and with all the recent (well recent and not so recent) types of posts going on, it is really not making the place the best it can be. Many of the older members which are a wealth of knowledge have been turned away by the newbies who are taking over like a bad virus. Many of the newer members are afraid to post because they are attacked and shunned. As for the women... well, we all know that there is just a complete lack of respect issue there that needs to stop.

So be forewarned... actions will be taken starting now for posts that we do not feel are putting bimmerforums.com's best foot forward or posts that are not in the best interest of the board. Those of you who know who you are, consider yourself warned. Punishment will vary based on the offenders overal contribution to the board (outside of OT), as well as the problem at hand, ranging from temporary/permanent removal from OT, extended time-out periods and banning. We don't want to punish people, but you have to cut off the gangerous limb so it doesn't kill the entire body to make any attempt of having a better future.

I hate having to lay down laws like this... but we want to make this board as great as possible don't we? This is the only way we can curtail a certain amount of uselessness and put more creative efforts into the rest of the bmw board.
