Opinions needed on Renaultsport Clio 197 - got it!

Or completely ignoring what I just wrote...

I would buy something that someone had spent a bit of money on converting for track use but was still road legal so there was no need to trailer. My reasoning is that £8K spent on a hot hatch that is still factory will not only be a compromise in the fun stakes but will also be money down the drain. Think about it.... would you buy a used Renault for say, £5K that had been someone's track slag?

Failing that I'd go for a much cheaper older car. But then, tinkering with the oily bits is my idea of fun.

This is an argument that i have also had with myself. However and it's a big however, this might convert to my daily driver. I'm still considering if i should be running 3 cars and adding a 4th.

So it might just have to be a usable car (for my wife) which won't shake bones and break teeth going to the shops. A compromised car might be all that i can do with out running a large vehicle fleet.

I also like the John Cooper works idea.

Pleased to say that i bagged myself a beauty.

Eventually i plumbed for a 2010 CUP with a nice spare set of 17's shod with Toyo 888's

Before i get roasted because of no photos, here are a few.

Trackdays here we come!

My friend has a 197 and found that it's as flat as a fart at low revs, really disappointing. Think id much rather have something with a turbo. Tbh I expected the M to have a similar problem being a tuned up NA engine and was really pleasantly surprised at how torquey it is!

that is a gorgeous car though! Heard the mpg is really bad is that true?

Very nice Dario, got the better seats as well, they were a snug fit even for me in the red chavy F1 stickered thing we had.

I think they drive like any other small NA hot hatch (albeit a rather good one). You rev the nuts off them and that's where the fun is in the whole experience. Turbos are killing that fun if you ask me.

If you see it as sort of a traditional I see what you mean but being able to boot it in a higher gear and actually go somewhere is a good thing imo. Sort of makes them feel faster than they actually are as well. A bit like diseasels
