Just had a bit of a shopping spree for some washing / detailing stuff, just wondered if i've got a good start and what else i may need.

Snow Lance for pressure washer
Snow Foam fluid.
Sheepskin Mitt.
Spoke Brush
AutoGlym - Alloy Wheel Seal
TRIX iron & tar remover spray.

I'm assuming "Clay / Lube" is going to be the immediate answer, but i'm a little nervous as to making things worse.

I'm not planning on "detailing" my car as such, just want to take better care of it and as such i am not planning on trying to remove swirls as i'll probably just make things worse!

I would provide links to exact products but not sure if i'm allowed or whether it would be of any use.

if tou want to improve your paint finish whilst keeping your regime simple follow my easy 3 steps . after a decent cleaning obviously :)
1) autoglym super resin polish
2) poorboys blackhole glaze
3) meglars deep crystal 3

Get a clay.

Remove all the contaminants.

Use IRON-X

Then use the rest of the products you bought.

If you have the time, watch these youtube videos, http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=281047

They completely changed the way i look at cleaning / polishing. they are long...... but as i say, if you have the time its worth it in my opinion.

@Shawna the TRIX includes iron x, but also does tar.

Cheers Darin will take a look. Need some grit guards as well maybe next week!

Is Claying that important?!

Dont bother with clay - i tried it, and it didn't make the slightest bit of difference... waste of time & money!

I think there are a few schools of thought on this. cal bar removes contaminates on the surface of the topcoat. if you try polishing with different compounds you will just grind in the contaminates that are already on the topcoat that washing does not remove.

Well said. Clay it or you will do lots of work for nothing.
