Hi guys,

This Z4 just came up on ebay, looks decent with the kind of spec im after...

The only thing that worries me is the service history, the car has stamps up until 13k, 27k and 42k in the service book. However the owner states that he did an oil change just over 10k ago but has no proof of this.

Is it still worth a look or should I stay away?

The guy seems pretty genuine, answering all the questions i'm throwing at him!

thanks,
Dave

I'm no expert on mechanicals but the car does look tidy so if it doesn't involve a long journey to view might be worth a looksee if only to compare with future ones you may find - the sort of questions I would be asking is:

How long has he owned the car ?

What type of service was done at 42k miles - was it Inspection 2 ? Has it ever had an Inspection 2 ?

What are the tyres like ? - bloody expensive if need replacing soon.

That's a lot of miles between 42k and its current mileage that leave a question mark - even if he did do an oil change it would need another ( not that expensive even from BMW - £180 including a brake fluid change which it almost certainly needs )

you could always pay for an RAC check or take someone with you who knows what to look for .

With the question mark on the service history and the mileage its ( in my opinion ) way overpriced .

Personally I wouldn't take the risk as there are hundreds out there with better histories but if the price is right , the checks bear out and you like it then .................

thanks guys.

i am quite tempted to go and have a look, although its a 5hr round trip.

i didnt think the price was too bad with the extras its got, but i guess its the service history that lets it down!

It might be fine but I wouldn't buy any high performance car where there are serious questions over servicing. It's not exactly a difficult thing to get right...

I would want to know who owned the car from 42k until now ?
Do MOT's verify mileage ?
How many owners ?
What invoices if any are there to show other work done ?
What sort of tyres are fitted ? ( call me an arse but you can tell a great deal about a car owner from their choice of tyre 8) )
Finally at 10yrs old i would buy on condition which would mean viewing & a drive

As for the spelling mistake ? we all make em & i wouldn't want to lose a potential good car on that merit

Rest of the car looks good . Black/red/108's/nav/3.0 it all adds up .

If you want to check the mileage you can just log on to the dvla website - just tap in the registration and unique number on the V5 ( log book document ) and bring up the car's whole MOT history showing dates , mileages and even advisories since it was 3 years old. Its free to do this. The seller must have a computer so you could do it there after you've test drove it - if he doesn't want you to do this then you can walk away !

Good Luck

Go and see it and tell me if its any good would ya

tbh I think I may leave this one....

Don't be put off with 6 owners in 10 years , sports cars are notorious for having quick changes of ownership .
My advice would be see as many as poss & the good ones stand out just as obvious as the bad
