Opinion on private reg

I got the better half one some years back now had it on her CLK now on her Cooper S her name is Diane Dutton plate is
D1 DUT think it works well and easy for her to remember also :D

There are currently discussions underway about standardising number plates across all of Europe. If the UK joins in (and that will be a political decision), then all of us who have private plates will almost certainly lose them.

Is it just me when I first looked at it looked like…

SHE RIMS

I like them T100 SCT is mine, wanted T10 SCT because its my football number and fav number but couldn't get it. My dads is T70 SCT copied me but his initials are like mine TJ Scott so think its cool.

I am thinking of getting S4 CUX, which will mean nothing to anyone apart from people who know me. S is my initial 4 (for) and Cux is the reg for where I am from in Germany.

I brought two for the other half, one was S600BOO as her nickname is Boo Boo, the other is on her cooper s and is C1REX as we breed Rex cats.

:D

Really ZedFourM??
Lillywhite - I've wondered at times why we have to use metric for fruit and veg, e.g. Kgs yet our roads are in miles, road signs often say XX yards (I know is cos of EU regulations and can see why makes sense). Not that I'm complaining but sometimes people talk about short distances in yards yet I would think of metres maybe.

Unfortunately the only link that I can seem to find is on the swivel-eyed looney web site in bongo bongo land, but despite that it does appear to be factual: http://www.ukip.org/hands_off_our_number_plates.

My favourite anomaly is that we buy petrol in litres but talk about fuel consumption in Miles Per Gallon. How logical is that?!

These are on my wishlist...

...but I've been procrastinating about which to buy for about 2 years. Still haven't made up my mind.

Apparently would cost £millions to replace existing signage.

That's not a website I've looked at before, but I think plates with country abbreviations would be fine, no need to all follow same type of plate. Haven't thought about it long just initial thought.

Ah the petrol thing, yeh!! Def agree it's weird that fuel consumption is then in MPG.

Ahhh. :headbang:

Thanks for everyone ideas and opinions, honestly I like it my nickname is Sherman from American pie no I don't look like him nd am not ginger..... Well maybe my facial features are but that's all any way, but it does have the problem or making the car look older am going to keep looking about just at the prefix plates coz they are more noticeable of being a private plate. I've got about a month to sort one out should have the log book by then little mix up with dealer putting it in my old address TOOLS!!

I mention to my wife to see what she though ...bad idea everything she looked at had Hannah or something to do with her think she forgot it's my car.

I've got 316 LNW on mine, dateless but not my initials

I have seen 00 06 MAH for sale which was thinking of getting.

DO IT!

I've had oo 04 pdb on my Zed from new (my initials are PDB), I love it, others seem to too.

On a related issue, I'm in the process of a full respray (still Merlot Red) and need to replace the tatty number plates - I'm undecided on whether to go for the more current "Blue GB and Euro Symbol" style or keep it plain.

Which will look best with my body colour? Views??

Anyone got a Merlot Red photo with new style plates?

Agree with the comments above, the prefix style plates look better IMO.

On a side note, only buy directly from DVLA. The plate you have suggested is on their site for £250 including admin costs for putting it on your car -

http://dvlaregistrations.direct.gov.uk/search/results.html?search=Sh53+rms&action=index&pricefrom=0&priceto=&prefixmatches=&currentmatches=&limitprefix=&limitcurrent=&limitauction=&searched=true&openoption=&language=en&prefix2.x=-563&prefix2.y=-148&super=&super_pricefrom=&super_priceto=

Agreed re DVLA, and it is possible to get great plates through them for peanuts. I got 'V8 MPG' for £250 which fits my initials and also miles per gallon of course :) now to get a V8 daily driver...

When I had my E34 M5, I bought M5 BHW directly from DVLA for £250. I sold the car with the plate on it. Last I heard, some joker was trying to get £5k for the number :-)

Do what I done. Drink a bottle of wine, surf the internet and when you wake up in the morning with a fuzzy head you look at your emails and find you brought a plate.!!
