opening the boot

Just bought an approved user sdrive 30i after exchanging my 10 year old 2003 Z4
I don't know whether I am being stupid but - I can't find a way to open the boot from inside at all!!?!?
When I'm dropping off the missus, I always use to sit inside, press a button and she could open the boot to get out her luggage and get on the train...today, the only way I could do it was by switching off the engine, taking this new FOb thing out and pressing the boot release button on it....

Do I have to keep switching the engine off and doing this everytime I drop someone off??
It seems really stupid for such an expensive car. Or am I the one being stupid?

You can press the unlock all doors button, it won't pop it open but it will unlock it

You do indeed, assuming its unlocked - with the fob I think it pops it open a little for you though (I never really open it from the fob)

Later models have been fitted with the internal boot release button as I understand it!. I have investigated the retrofit of the button with the dealers (after all how difficult can this be?) and the answer is that it CAN't be done. so we have to live with it. Unless somebody knows different?

I suppose its got soomething to do with the the roof folding thing

With the keyfob it does open a little....but then you cant get your fingers underneath to lift it anyway, so you still need to push the BMW roundel in. So, just press the central locking button to unlock all doors, then she can press the roundel in (from the top) and open like that.

The boot lid is quite heavy in my opinion.

Kev, I can get my fingers under the lid to open it. Z4's are for girls after all :lol:

plastics, you can press the unlock boot button on the key fob while its in the ignition (I think) which will unlock and open it while you are sat in the car.

I dont know if its one of those apocryphal tales, but i did hear of somebody getting both hands (fingers of) caught and could not get out!!!

HMMM!! Better than having something else caught in the boot lid should one suddenly take to loading the boot whilst nekid. :wink:

Well i don't know about you, but normally i have my little mate tucked away when i go out in the car / open the boot lid etc.

Having said that....... just try the finger trapping thing and see if it works

Only find this annoying when a friend who doesn't know how to use the badge wants to get into boot and you can't pop it for them from inside so you end up switching off to use the fob or shouting instructions at them

Yes, I tried this this morning. Opening the boot on the keyfob, it is then possible to get your fingers under the bottom lip and list up, without having to press the BMW logo again. So its not just girly fingers that fit, cos my chubby little fat fingers also worked!

However, on my car, you cant open it with the fob whilst it is in the ignition. Tried it with the engine running, the engine stopped, central locking locked and unlocked. Nothing.

Took the keyfob out of the ignition, and it worked straight away.

Perhaps its so that some numpty (and you know they exist) cant open the boot whilst driving? However, they could easily prevent that by tieing it to the video in motion sensor (i.e. so it wouldn't work when moving), and it would be another nice little convenience feature....probably be able to slap another grand on the options list if they thought of a fancy name, like "boot opens from dedicated keyfob button....£999.99"!!!!!

Look on the plastic trim surrounding the bonnet release lever. Above the lever you will find a square blanking plug where the internal boot release button would be located if fitted.

And the lazy buggers can't be bothered to update the manual as it says you can open boot from inside using button next to bonnet release. Such a tease...

Yeah, that button isnt on my car. Think its only for certain markets. You know, the excuse "some things shown in the brochure are only for certain markets"....like hill start assist..... :thumbsdown:

there is an unlock button on the centre dash - then I just tell her to press that bmw round badge...phew
