Opening the Boot with the Remote

This may be a total noob question, but is it possible to open the boot of the E89 with the remote, without first unlocking car. ON my E39 when i hit the boot release it will open the boot irrespective of if the doors are locked, so I can get stuff in and out of the boot without unlocking the entire car.

On the Z4 it appears i need to first unlock the car, and then unlock the boot to get into the boot. Is this correct? Is there a way to enable the boot to unlock independently of the doors without a re-coding exercise?

When i searched for this is did find the US User Manual which appeared to show a whole raft of things being able to be personalised, but I haven't found those settings.

If there is I haven't found it yet, so interested as well
Just didn't have the guts to ask

On the e85 it's a coded option an can be set to work either way , I would imagine yours is the same, weather you can set it on idrive or you need a coding device/app I don't know sorry

Comfort access let's u open the booth without unlocking the car. Not via remote just be close to the boot with the key in the pocket and open. Car doors stay locked

It's a codeable option.

On mine, I have set it to "boot locked when car unlocked" which means that even if the car is unlocked you have to either use the key or press the boot unlock on the key three times. The unlock button inside the car will not work unless the ign is on.

I've set mine like that, as otherwise, say the roof is down and the car unlocked, someone could easily open the boot, and as I put cigarettes in there at the cash and carry...

Mines like this as standard, all pre-coded. I prefer the coding that the OP requires personally.
I like to unlock the boot from remote without messing around unlocking the car first!

Interesting thread guys - I need to get mine coded so the boot unlocks without needing to unlock the car. That would be much more useful than the current setting.

Default setting on my E46 Compact is for the boot to unlock independently - in fact if it had OEM gas struts instead of cheapo ECP ones the tailgate would actually pop open as well. Great feature if your hands are full of stuff to put in there! I wonder if anyone makes uprated struts for an E86? (Needs some research I think)!
