Opening/closing roof with key

Now I am sad as have a pre facelift model so no 3 blinks for me :-(

I'm not sure... that thread is far from conclusive!

I've driven three pre-facelift cars and none of them had this handy little extra. The facelift we bought, does.

Hold the key in the unlock position & it drops the windows & roof. Hold it in the lock position & it will close the roof & windows.

Pretty sure the 3 x blinks can be set on pre-facelift cars - see "settings" then "lights".

As pointed out above in the UK only an indy can program this for you... The dealers wont.

I had mine done... But later installed a gaptech, which imo is the way to go, press and hold is pointless and often stops half way!

Gaptech is the best thing I have done to my car. Its alot nicer to be able to drop the roof with three unlock clicks than holding it, and the roof shutting combo is used far too often by myself xD Highly recommend it.

I disagree. The handbook makes no mention of this being optional, either by itself or as part of a package. If it was only available on certain models or certain markets then they would have said so. They're very hot on that sort of thing.

I don't know if this was a pre-facelift thing or if it applied to all E85's but it works on my '03 model & as far as I know it's never been coded. Try it on your car (what have you got to lose?). It takes a couple of moments to start moving. Obviously not as good as a Gap-Tech.

My E36 had this feature, dropping & closing all 4 windows although it wouldn't do the roof. My '92 E34 had it too. I guess not many people knew about it.
