Opening and closing the roof from outside the car in garage

Don't think that those 40/50's style prefabricated garages were ever designed to house a vehicle wider than an Austin 7. :D

I dont think new garages are either my flat is only a few years old and the garage is very narrow.

As others have said get some carpet or soft foam by the drivers door to avoid marks. I find leaving the window down leaves me just enough room to get in and out. Mite have to try this with the roof as I had the same concerns.

Shortage of land, I afraid, particularly revelant when garages are incorporated within the dwelling. It's a fact that 90% of all garages are used as general storage/dumping area rather than for the intended purpose of housing a motor vehicle.

Id love to put my car in the garage but the idiots who designed my drive and garage didn't put it inline... so to get the car in and out I would have to go over next doors drive, which would be a bit tricky if they happen to have a car on the drive.... :headbang: :headbang:

Hi,

Right, been to the garage and yes, the roof raises and lowers with the key in the door lock. Good job. Still not easy to get in and out though. Will definitely borrow a carpet tile from work, or cut up a foam sleeping mat to glue to the wall.

The only problem I have now is the car doesn't dry very well in the garage. My main concern, the roof, is dry, as is the bonnet, but the rear end of the car at the back of the garage is still a bit wet. It seems I'll have to give it a quick rinse and dry off before I go to the garage after each use. How annoying!

You've identified another problem with keeping a car in a garage, particularly this type of isolated prefabricated concrete type. Great for keeping snow and frost off the car but because of the low ambient temperature no drying wind is able to get to the car.

How annoying! I've been trying to find a garage so I can keep it dry, clean and away from snow and frost, and now it's wetter than the cars on the road! To be fair, it's mostly dry. I only use it on weekends so I'd rather it be in the garage away from children's footballs during the week than on the road. Fed up of telling them off, they don't seem to take much notice. I don't use the car much, so it won't be hard to keep it clean and give it a quick dry with a micro fibre drying towel on sunday night before it gets tucked away again until Friday.

The main thing for me, is the roof is out of the rain and away from all the big trees around my house, the snow and frost is off the car and the children's footballs can't hit it!!!!! :x

Could not agree more I think I am one of a handful of people that actually use my garage for my car I think the neighbours find it amusing seeing me squeeze in and out of it though. Although I'm sure they think I'm mad for washing it so much any way.
