Opening and closing the bonnet of z4...

Well, I have to agree with you on that but if you are thinking we have better roads, forget about it!!! Some roads are more than perfect but the majority you have to drive as low as 15 miles per hour, otherwise forget the low profile wheels and forget the alloys! :x The weather, yes its simply perfect, it rains for say 4 months a year and during these 4 months there are days of glorious sunshine, the food for a convertible! :D
Over here it usually rains 4 months 3 times a year! (barring last year)

Yes andysat, I came for a week over there and there was not one day during which it did not rain! But Uk is awesome, beautiful country indeed! There is everything in uk! Yep, rain too!

Give the kind man a break guys! 8) Just took my z4 for a bit of a long drive, now I understand why all the fuss about the e89!!! Ahhh, the machine melody is so awesome!!! I am already head over heels over my z4!!! That damn alignment only keeps getting me frustrated, the rest is perfect for me!!!

lol, I often log off here in tears :)

Re the bonnet mine seems to be fine, how are the shut lines, I guess it would only have to be slightly out with the gas struts for there to be a slight drag on them. I would get the dealer to have a quick look.

I always lifted it from the centre, being so large it would have a lot of flex if lifted or closed from the side. I never noticed any issue doing it my way.... and don't let your Gf sit on it (for any reason 8) 8) )

If I spot any squashed flies on my windscreen I always pull over to wipe them off with my hankerchief.

Re bonnet just lube it.

Tim.

How long does it take you to finish a journey during the summer months?? :?

From the garage to the top of the drive and back again about 30 seconds, a little longer if I sneak and polish in

Hi Time, I did not understand your message regarding the 'gas struts', what are these exactly please? Its not a question that the bonnet is long because as I close it down with my hands I can feel that its coming from the left piston, it feels a lot of drag from that side. Its not a lubrication issue either because I checked it. I will follow the advise to get it to the dealer to have a quick look at it. Regarding the shut lines of the bonnet, its about two mm difference on the right hand side of the bonnet to the front bumper (when compared to the left hand side). It does not concern me that much, I am only a bit frustrated though with the endless amount of stone chips the bonnet has! What would you advise regarding a total bonnet respray?

Hi,

Along a similar thread.... my boot lid is heavy to lift open and requires supporting to close, else will slam shut.
I'm assuming the Gas Struts require replacing (best to replace both I'd say)?
Fortunately, the Struts have enough life in them to support and keep the boot open.

My local dealership has quoted £82ish inc VAT a pair, supply only.

That's normal. Before you pay out, check another car, I think you'll find it normal. Bear in mind there are compromises in weight etc given this whole assembly moves to allow the roof to fold.

I was at the dealership this week, I enquired about the heaviness of the boot lit. This is normal.
I think this is my only niggle with the Z4.

I have never opened the bonnet. The salesman opened it to show me when the car was handed over but it has stayed clamped shut since then. It looked pretty boring a load of black plastic.

A great example why I never like buying second hand cars

Thanks. The car is a year old and I have a free day tomorrow. If I open the bonnet what should I do?

If you're lucky there will be nothing in there :poke:
