Open soft top

Hi All my first thread on here, nice site.

I've had my Z4MR for a just a few weeks now. As I'm 6.4 and the car lives in a prety standard, ie narrow, garrage, over night, I have been leaving the top down for easy exit and entry. My question is, Is it good to keep leaving the top open for long periods or should I be closing the roof before I put it in the Garage.

some members put a hard top on during winter - effectively leaving the soft top down all winter - so I'd say you should be fine really...

Leaving open in a garage would let dust and insects on the cabin... Also not sure where your car insurance would stand leaving it in a garage with the roof down.

A much better solutions would he getting an independent reprogramme your key to be able to close the roof with the key (press and hold the open will open it as standard anyway) Or even better buy a remote one touch kit.

Doesn't harm it - as said, hardtop users like me have the damn thing down for 3-4 months at a stretch and all you get is a little creasing that soon pops out, even more so in this warmer weather.

x2 on all the above

Have you tried getting in and out with the drivers window down whilst the car is in the garage?

Cheers all for your replies. I've spotted a number of chips for sale on e-bay, to fit yourself that provide remote opperation with a few clicks on the key fob. Has any one tried these? I should be fine with fitting. Would just like an independent view on wether or not they are good products 8) .

the gaptech one touch + remote (OTH+R) is a great unit. There was a group buy on this forum about 50 people bought one, myself included.

Easy to install and I use it daily, don't believe anyone has had any issues with it so far.

Aquazi - I have an 03 model, and that feature is not standard, also tried to get it done at the stealer, they said they could not enable it on my model - only option was putting key in the door and holding it in the unlock position  but now I have Gaptech :D

Sorry to clarify this would be standard for the op in his M ( and all facelift cars) I had the remote close enabled on mine and used to use it once in a while... But holding the button was rubbish! Only useful thing is being able to close the windows remotely using the key..... I now also have the gaptech module and it's much better

It's not good putting the roof down when it's wet and definitely not good leaving it down when it's wet!

Gap tech module is the way to go: http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=25705&p=382577&hilit=One+touch+hood#p382577
